At this assignment I had been working on Datacenter design, network design and implementation, ELK stack, HAproxy, RabbitMQ, Fortigate, IPsec, BGP and many other systems and protocols.As a team leader I was in charge of a skilled team of Linux specialists. I was responsible for delegating their work, training them in various systems as well as creating a good working atmosphere (I also find time to work).I had mostly been using CentOS through the systems I manage, building custom scripts to monitor, report and manage key systems. Fine-tuning our systems to gain maximum performance to make best use of finances. I worked with installing full network solutions, IP camera and security systems.I am involved with site plaining for cable installation and placement of hardware. While working for Institut Mittag-Leffler as a System Administrator/Developer/System support.I am required to be able to help fix any type of software/hardware problem on any device that a researcher may bring from any country in any language. Through this we purchase new devices for testing and familiarization on all platforms so we stay up to date with all changes that are made.At this workplace I build PHP systems linking to MySQL, MSSQL and SRVSQL databases. I design customised solutions to help in users with work-flow and in automation of task. These systems I code in PHP, PHP-CLI, Peril and Bash depending on the needs of the task requirements. I am required to write go-betweens to allow any software we purchase to talk to any other system.All of the systems I am required to create a clean and slick design for the user experience, using PHP5, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery and optimizing for viewing on the top 5 browsers plus Edge MS new browsers as well as adding mobile site functionality for multiply screen sizes.I also maintain our servers and network infrastructure, This consists of RHEL, OpenBSD and Ubuntu servers both virtual and bare metal as well as our Juniper firewalls and switches. I also maintain our wireless network, the assess-points are spread all over the campus using 2.4 and 5Ghz actively monitored through the controllers to give QoS. In this role I was in the quality and development section. Our team worked out what systems were needed to improve the section, after the consultation I alone was left to develop the systems to completion. In order to develop and innovate software used for training, surviving, reporting, documentation, etc. which has saved the council thousands of pounds I continually learned new computer languages as they were required. I was placed in charge of designing the network layout for our section and setting access rights. I developed a new system that enables multiple councils to link in remotely to our servers for entering training data that would allow staff from other councils to join in training courses to spread costs. I was responsible for my section for technical support of workstations, Tablet PC and peripherals working both local and remotely. I created a system to link all our software to get data for making custom reports at a click of a button. Some of my many tasks included vehicle tracking (also monitoring usage, speed and location of all our section vehicles), designing plans and maps for new road layouts and cemetery extensions using AutoCAD. Leading the development of the GIS (geographic information system) and the GPS systems used in the Arboriculture and Cemetery Departments used for mapping all trees in East-Ayrshire. This was needed for risk assessment near roads, parks and other public areas covering some 1,262km².

Voluntary work to improve my skills. I was helping a company get started in 2001. To do this I sourced, building and install multiple computers and implement an appropriate network and in 2003. I redesigned the website of the company.

In my first year at college doing my NC, two of my lecturers got me to teach the class, because I already had the head knowledge in these areas. I found this most enjoyable. During my time spent at Paisley, several students kept coming to me for tutoring in Pascal and C++. I also helped students with hardware knowledge and Web design. They found that I could teach them more about the areas they required, in a shorter period of time and they remembered it better, than their teachers could.
