The Civil Air Support (formerly Civil Air Patrol) in the United Kingdom was formed in Yorkshire in the year 2000. Since then it has become one of the largest voluntary air observation organizations in Europe with over 200 members and over 70 aircraft belonging to operational units in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.In practical terms CAS has assisted UK Police Forces, Coast Guards, the National Rivers Authority, the Environment Agency and numerous local authorities across the whole of the UK. As part of my post retirement activities I was asked to set up a unit locally as Cambridgeshire did not have a CAS flight. Although only in an embryo form the Cambridgeshire unit was able to assist the Environment Agency with aerial photographs of the effects of the heavy rain earlier in the year, overflying flooded areas across the county with particular attention to the area around the “Dog in a Doublet” area of the River Nene. The Cambridgeshire unit is based at Conington Airfield and we have 10 pilot members (with aircraft) who are keen to offer what support we can to the community. While we are not claiming to be able to deliver specialist skills or equipment we are also most defiantly not ‘wannabe’ aviators. Our pilots all have hundreds of hours of pilot-in-command experience (with commercial and RAF backgrounds as well as private pilots) and we plan to operate with a crews of two allowing the “observer” to undertake any search tasks or photography that may be requested of us, allowing the pilot to concentrate on the safe conduct of the flight.Always looking for more members to assist in any way they feel able to.

After Police Service, own consulting business and time with Serco decided to call it a day and spend more time flying aircraft rather than just flying around on the ground. Still occasionally do some strategic work for old acquaintances but nothing too intense.

Managed the Information Security Consulting Practice and in addition undertook a number of projects in Healthcare, Policing, Secure Systems and Information Management. A major re-organisation of the company resulted in the removal of "my" directorate and I felt this presented me with an appropriate point to close my formal career.
