Dr Graham Root has over 20 years of experience working with the private sector, public sector and civil society on the design and delivery of international development and social performance programmes in Africa and Asia. He is the founder and Managing Director of Montrose International and is responsible for leading its strategic development and growth as an organization. Part of his role is directing Montrose’s work with extractive industries in Africa and Asia. This has included working with BG Group, BHP Billiton, CNOOC, Hess, ICMM, Tullow Oil, AngloGold Ashanti, Newcrest Mining and Ok Tedi on the design, implementation and monitoring of a range of social investment and health programmes in Africa and Asia. Prior to establishing Montrose, Dr Root was Managing Director of Malaria Consortium, a communicable disease control NGO working in over 24 countries in Africa. He oversaw and led the expansion of the organization in Africa from a small technical resource to a world-renowned communicable disease NGO with a multi-million dollar turnover. Dr Root has held positions with the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the World Health Organization and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in a range of senior technical and managerial roles. Areas of expertise include policy and strategy development, monitoring and evaluation, communicable disease control and programme design.
