The KooyongKoot Alliance was formed in 2020 and it brought together over 20 Friends Groups and like-minded community organisations, to advocate for and participate in the development of a holistic Strategic Plan for the Gardiners Creek (KooyongKoot) catchment, located in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Key relationships have, over the past 3 years, been formed with stakeholders at Federal, State and Council levels of Government, as well as with the 15 or so major stakeholders, which include utilities, the education, recreation and sporting sectors, including Deakin University, Melbourne Water and Yarra Valley Water. We are now,as part of the Gardiners Creek (KooyongKoot) Regional Alliance, working collaboratively towards that long term Strategic Plan. All 5 Councils in the catchment, The KooyongKoot Alliance and a number of the key stakeholders and strategic partners have formed a steering committee, and we are well advanced in our journey to develop the plan. The KooyongKoot Alliance became incorporated and a registered charity in 2022.We have been successful in achieving funding from both Federal and State Governments.

Melbourne
After 30 or so great years in the commercial property sector, I decided the time was right to follow my heart and immerse myself in an area I have long had a passion for, biodiversity. There is a lot happening in this space in terms of investment, through various channels including carbon offsetting. There are so many amazing people in this conservation land management sector that are in it because it's their passion and are helping create real change through their actions and through their networks. I only hope it reaches government level very soon! There is no doubt....it will be an exciting time.
Based in Melbourne, but managing assets in SA, NSW, Act, Queensland and Victoria, my role in The Kador Group was a broad one, involving co-ordination of leasing campaigns, rent reviews, budgeting, reporting as well as managing capital expenditure projects. My portfolio was a mixed one, covering office, retail as well as industrial/warehouse assets with a range of tenants from multi-nationals to small private retail tenants. A major focus was on sustainability and initiating and implementing a progressive upgrade of the assets to increase their energy and environmental performance, with a number of offices achieving 5 star NABERS rating from an initial one star base level. It was a great way to forge stronger relationships with my tenants, as the projects were not just all about ROI, that common goal added a layer to the relationship.A major focus was creating strong relationships with my tenants and consultants, communication is key in our industry, indeed as it should be in any industry.I am proud to have worked for the Kador Group as they showed leadership in ethics, professionalism and in the field of sustainability.

As a Director in the Asset Management Department, an area employing some 25 people, my role was varied and exciting. It involved overseeing staff, new business generation as well as managing a portfolio of primarily office and industrial properties ranging from private owners to major multinational Funds. The department grew to be a strong profit centre for the company as our management portfolio expanded. Along with our Sydney office, I was involved in the setting up of the first Sustainability Team at CBRE and through my 10 year tenure at the Sustainability committee of the Victorian Property Council a number of fundamental initiatives were implemented across the CBRE property portfolio.CBRE gave me a huge insight into the workings of a large multi-national real estate company and how important strong and effective leadership is in driving productivity but also fostering loyalty in employees.
