This past year I was honored with the position as First Mate to Captain Travis Rice aboard his 48 foot sailing vessel Falcor on her 2,500 nautical mile journey from French Polynesia to Hawaii. In partnership with Roam Media and Gnarbox, this passage was the subject of a short documentary film titled "Lines to H.I." which will be featured at the 2018 Telluride Mountainfilm Festival in Colorado this spring. This passage, by way of the Line Islands in the Central Pacific, and through the Horse Latitudes, is one of the most remote sections of this vast ocean. Our small crew of four took advantage of our unique situation and volunteered to collect water samples in order to provide plastic particulate concentration data for a stretch of ocean not yet studied for use in Adventure Scientists' global microplastics study.
