I started working for Watershed Specialist Adjusters back in February this year investigating and reporting on the most popular type of claims, employers, motor and public liability. I was initially employed to handle a portfolio of property claims mainly arising, but not exclusively, from new build housing projects throughout the UK. These were in the main projects started by couples or individuals and largely involved theft and or damage to domestic new properties that were being built or converted from other buildings. My caseload was thereafter expanded to encompass the investigation and report compiling for onward transmission to client insurers in relation to EL, PL and Motor Liability accidents occurring in Scotland. Further details below.Within Knowles there is a subsidiary based in England which handles a taxi Insurance scheme for many largely based Glasgow taxis. Given time restraints I endeavoured to try to investigate these incidents without necessarily visiting the accident locus. I used Google Earth, very useful for checking road markings, right of way etc. Thereafter I obtained Police Reports to garner details of witnesses and take precognitions if possible over the telephone. Whilst I always preferred to take precognitions face to face this was not always practical or necessary. I did persuade many taxi drivers to call at our Glasgow office to provide their version of events.

I was responsible for the Council’s Claims Section which handled in-house PL, EL and Motor liability third party claims falling below the Council’s deductible of £250,000. Supervising a team of 10 staff, I handled the more complex claims, acted as a referral point for colleagues and dealt with Claimant appeals. I also investigated potentially fraudulent claims together will all enquiries from MP's, MSP's and Councillors.The scope of this role means that I have substantial experience of the investigation of all of the above type of claims, including housing related domestic claims pre-stock transfer of the Council's housing properties to the GHA together with Council's ‘arms length’ organisations. In this role, I was the Senior Officer of last resort for many unhappy disgruntled motorists, householders and members of the public who felt unjustly that their claim had been turned down. In an effort to assuage such Claimants, I invariably reviewed many claims under appeal, which involved home visits and thereafter advising them of the outcome of any further investigation that might have been undertaken.
