Experiences involved: - Project lead and manager of three employees conducting environmental research projects. Responsible for experimental setup, maintenance, and sampling of multiple bench scale bioreactors measuring fate of wastewater and drinking water contaminants under a variety of aquatic conditions. Required careful attention to detail for data management and QA/QC procedures for sample purification and extraction utilizing analytical chemistry instrumentation (GC/MS and LC/MS/MS).– Developed EPA approved standard operating procedures (SOP), health and safety plans (HASP), and quality assurance project plans (QAPP).- Surface water productivity and respiration monitoring to determine overall ecological status of "impaired" and "healthy" stream reaches. Objective to determine influence of alternative storm water management practices (i.e. rain gardens and rain barrels) on phosphorus, nitrogen, and sediment transport. – Predictive modeling of metal complex formations in drinking water distribution systems under different aquatic chemistry conditions. - Air sampling and microbiological analyses during biosolids application studies in agricultural landscapes. Analyses conducted for particulates and microbial constituents using IDEX quantitrays and simplates for enterococci, E. Coli, and total coliforms.

Work focused on steam and surfactant flushing techniques to remediate petroleum/industrial waste contaminated sediments from an EPA Superfund site. Daily practices involved following standard operating procedures for physical and chemical extraction of hydrocarbons and heavy metals for analysis on gas chromatography/mass spectrophotometry and atomic absorption. Additional research conducted on alternative reuse applications of contaminated sediments, incorporated: polymer capping agents, geotubes for dewatering, and usage as an asphalt constituent. Responsible for chemical analysis of nitrogen, phosphorus, PAHs, PCBs, oil/grease and heavy metals. Assistance also maintaining and sampling experimental fluidized bed anaerobic bioreactors targeted at degrading contaminants from military and industrial waste sites.

Intern at the Division of Surface Water (modeling and assessment department) for two summers (2004 and 2005). Conducted preparation and collection of surface waters at sites of varying quality across the state. Methods followed state regulated sampling and modeling techniques for field equipment and site selection. Maintained and regularly used: YSI datasondes (measuring pH, conductivity, chlorophyll, temperature, dissolved oxygen), ISCO automatic surface water samplers, fluorometers, and automatic and manual flow meters.
