Mechanical Engineer - Standards And Specifications, Emerging Markets

The Emerging Markets (EM) program was established to identify and source quality products from low cost countires in order to reduce the cost base for RTCA. My key accountability was the development of product specifications for plant and mobile equipment parts however I operated as a Project Manager, overseeing projects from project scoping through to implementation. Key Achievements:- A key member of the team that delivered ~$40M in cost savings to RTCA between 2014 and 2015.- Delivered in excess of 30 product specifications between 2014 and 2016 that enabled the commercial teams to conduct sourcing activities. In addition, the specifications I developed often resulted in standardisation and optimisation of parts and assets across sites. - Identified and delivered innovative braking system for RTCA Komatsu 830E haul trucks with annualised savings of $1.65M. Additional benefits to the business included standardisation of brake kits, and improved safety and service life of brake components.- Developed the Project Delivery Framework for the Emerging Markets Programme. This resulted in a more consistent approach to project delivery and integration with the existing sourcing process.

The Hunter Valley Operations CHPP produces 12-14 Mt of coal annually, within an operating budget of $70M. With a core focus on Reliability, I provided support to the Maintenance and Production teams through dedicated asset improvement projects, metrics tracking, supervision, Root Cause Analysis, and engineering technical guidance.Key Achievements:- Identified root cause of failures for the plant’s three input conveyors. Determined replacement strategy which resulted in standardisation of gearboxes, maintenance cost reduction and improved component life. - Supervised structural upgrades and 16km conveyor belt replacement of the plant’s main conveyor line during the 2014 shut down. Installations were completed four days ahead of schedule, with no reported injuries.

The HVO Mine Maintenance department directly employs over 400 people and has an annual operating budget of over $150m to maintain Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME). I spent time in Mechanical and Reliability Engineering roles with accountability for asset performance of Komatsu 830E dump trucks and Letourneau loaders.Key Achievements:- Led a team of six that delivered 9% availability improvement and 25% maintenance cost reduction within eight months for site’s Letourneau loader fleet. The project was managed under a Business Improvement framework. - Key member of a Business Improvement project that identified and delivered ~$20M (10% of budget) in maintenance cost savings through data analysis and a business process review.- Project managed the delivery of sites $1.6M 160 tonne float (prime-mover and trailer) on time and within budget. This involved writing the capital application and specification, managing the build schedule, and conducting introduction to site processes.

Many components are extensively used on Australian Defence Force rotary assets.I recieved a CEED scholarship with Daher Australian Aerospace (DAA) to complete my undergraduate Project Thesis. My project was to develop DAA's Workplace Health and Safety Management System (Stage 2) as part of their newly established composite manufacturing facility in Eagle Farm, Brisbane. I completed Stage 2 within the six month duration which resulted in improving DAA’s Workplace Health and Safety legal compliance from 45% to 73%. In additon, I developed a number of WHS procedures for various manufactruing processes around the plant.
