Primary ResponsibilityStaff position in the Environmental Compliance group of the Health, Safety and Environment Division. Responsible for all air permitting issues at the Laboratory as well as compliance with all reporting requirements. Ensuring that all upcoming rules implemented from the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 are reviewed for applicability and implemented as necessary. Also responsible for the site underground storage tank (UST) program.Other ResponsibilitiesMaintain current air permit program and evaluate new and ongoing activities to determine need for new or modified permits. Provide staff assistance on project reviews, research programs, and day-to-day operations and review of same for potential environmental impacts. Ensure any compliance issues are evaluated prior to initiation of new activities. Review for impacts by RCRA, TSCA, SARA, CERCLA, CAA, and CWA. Handle EPCRA 313 reporting requirements. Responsible for major reductions of greenhouse gas emissions as required by Executive Order 13693. Serve on site emergency team for chemical/hazardous material response.Major AccomplishmentsManaged project for development of Argonne's Title V permit application and renewal.Developed sitewide air emissions database for Title V compliance and annual emission reports.Implemented Argonne Clean Fuel Fleet program as required.Coordinated a program which significantly reduced the levels of sulfur hexafluoride emissions (major greenhouse gas).Coordinated efforts for compliance with major new air rules (Boiler MACT and RICE NESHAP).Worked in conjunction with DOE contractor for the permitting, construction, and testing of combined heat and power (CHP) gas-fired turbine with heat recovery steam generator.Coordinated the development of employee electric vehicle charging program.

Taught part time 200 level course in environmental science.

Major Responsibilities/AccomplishmentsResponsible for environmental (RCRA, TSCA, SARA, CERCLA, CWA, CAA) and safety (OSHA, DOT) at 350 employee facility for manufacturing specialty cleaning products.Handle all reporting requirements to local, state and federal agencies as well as planning for impact of future regulations. Conduct all mandatory employee training and assist departments in specific safety programs. Direct training/activities of plant emergency response (HazMat) brigade for fire, medical and hazardous material incidents.Act as representative to regulatory inspectors and local fire and emergency (LEPC) groups. Evaluate current and proposed plant operations for environmental/safety impact.

Major Responsibilities/AccomplishmentsSupervised safety/environmental regulatory activities at chemical plant manufacturing refrigerants and hydrochloric acid.Ensured compliance with RCRA, SARA, TSCA, CERCLA, SDWA, and permitted (UIC, NPDES) activities.Coordinated work with contractors, IEPA and USEPA to secure underground injection control (UIC) permit and RCRA mandated petition demonstration for on-site hazardous waste disposal facility.
