Gregory E. Bottomley has B. S. and M. S. degrees from Virginia Tech and a Ph. D. degree from N. C. State University, all in electrical engineering. Before the Ph.D. degree, he worked for AT&T Bell Labs in sonar signal processing. In 1990, he spent a year teaching at N. C. State University. From 1991 until 2009, he was with Ericsson as a member of Ericsson Research. In the fall of 2009, he became a Visiting Scholar at N. C. State University, resulting in the book Channel Equalization for Wireless Communications: From Concepts to Detailed Mathematics, IEEE Press inconjunction with Wiley. From 2010 to 2019 he worked at Northrop Grumman Corporation. He is currently semi-retired, teaching part-time at NC State University.At Ericsson, his research has been in wireless receiver algoritms, including channel equalization and channel estimation. This work has led to 11 published journal papers (+1 accepted), 5 journal letters, numerous conference papers and 91 issued U.S. patents. In 1997 he was named one of three Ericsson Inventors of the Year.Greg has also been active in the IEEE. He has served as Editor(in-chief) and as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. He has also served as Technical Program Committee Co-chair for the IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference Fall 2007.
