Supports the Adjutant General of Texas, coordinates activities of the Texas Military Forces with the National Guard Bureau (NGB) to ensure funding and compliance occur with other federal, state, and local jurisdictions in matters relating to missions of the Texas Army National Guard. Serves as Commander of the Texas Army National Guard.

The Texas Military Department is the state agency administering the Texas Military Forces which consists of the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard. The Director of Joint Staff is responsible for directing the Texas Military Department joint staff element and coordinating the activities of the army and air staff elements within the Joint Force Headquarters. Is the principle advisor to the Adjutant General on domestic operations, resources management and procurement, interagency and governmental coordination, strategic initiatives and oversees the readiness of Texas Military Forces personnel. When directed, serves as the state's dual status commander.

Establishes and monitors the planning and information schedule for effective decision-making, situational awareness, and formulation of agency policies. Ensure effective liaison exchanges with higher, lower, and adjacent organizations and other organizations as required. Supervise staff training and integration programs. Coordinates the TAG personal staff including general counsel, inspector general, U.S. Property and Fiscal Office, and chaplain.

The commander’s principal assistant and executive manager. The senior full-time administrative officer for the TXARNG. As the key staff integrator, frees the commander from routine details of staff operations and the management of the headquarters. Coordinate and direct the work of the staff. Establish and monitor the headquarters battle rhythm for effective planning support, decisionmaking, and other critical functions. Represent the commander when authorized. Formulate and disseminate staff policies. Ensure effective liaison exchanges with higher, lower, and adjacent units and other organizations as required. Supervise staff training and integration programs. Supervise the knowledge management, operations research and system analysis, red team, and special staff sections.

Executed all aspects of the Texas recruiting effort including strategic planning, marketing initiatives, sales management, sales training, retention of recruits, and personnel management. Led a full-time force of 405 personnel through eight direct. Executed a $30.9 million operational budget in fiscal year 2008. Managed marketing efforts including branding, broadcast media, print media, web media, social media, recruiting events, public affairs, and centers of influence communications. Focused on developing subordinate leaders and on innovative training of the recruiting force. Developed an operational focus on demographics and market share. Built a retention organization tasked with tracking and maintaining an average of 2100 new recruits through their basic and job-skills training. Planned for growth of the Texas Army National Guard through 2020. Initiated and maintained relationships with key outside agencies to increase the operational influence of the organization

Maintained the operational readiness of the organization. Managed a force of 500 part-time soldiers with a staff of 12 full-time personnel. Specialized in personnel management and administrative process improvement. Provided focus and oversight to logistic operations. After September 11, 2001 planned and executed multiple and simultaneous operations in response to national security requirements. Worked closely with state and community leaders on issues relating to local security and detailed planning for the National Guard response to communities. Flawlessly executed the complex process of preparing, training, deploying and redeploying the entire organization overseas for combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom

Authored multiple operations orders (plans) for all training and operations. Created and maintained the long-term and short-term calendar for the organization. Developed standard operating procedures for all aspects of the organization. Monitored the training status of all personnel within the organization. Planned and executed the preparation, training and deployment of the organization to Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Stabilization Force 7. Planned multiple base defense and physical security operations for Eagle Base in Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Served in a variety of leadership positions including 2nd Lieutenant platoon leader, 1st Lieutenant detachment commander, Captain company commander and battalion staff officer.
