After completing over 20 years full time service with the Royal Australian Navy specialising in policing and investigations I transitioned to the Australian Border Force (formally the Australian Customs Service) in 2001 as a Senior Investigator.In 2005, I transferred to Maritime Border Command (formally Coastwatch).Since joining Maritime Border Command (MBC) I have completed a number of roles, including operationalising the Australian Maritime Information System (AMIS).AMIS is a bespoke “system of systems capability” which fuses vessel track data to Customs and intelligence holdings, thus providing the Australian Border Force and other government agencies with a recognised civil maritime common operating and threat picture.Since 2005 my primary responsibility was to lead a team of maritime analysts to identify and mitigate threats emanating from within the civil maritime domain.In late 2022, I retired from the Australian Border Force and accepted a role with CRIMARIO II, a European Union lead project focusing on enhancing maritime information exchange and analysis. Additionally, since retiring I have also provided MDA tradecraft training and mentoring on behalf of United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime.I continue to have a strong interest in technologies related to maritime common operating picture, maritime sensors and analytical tools that assist the maritime analyst. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, photography and flying drones.
