Greg Dawes Work Experience Details
  • Nasa
    Element Operations Manager
    Nasa Aug 2013 - Present
    Kennedy Space Center
The Element Operations Manager (EOM) plays a critical role in assessing the impacts of maturing flight requirements at the major elements. Provide the leadership necessary to coordinate the impacts of design changes on the operations of hardware. The EOM’s are the critical link to assess impacts and initiate/lead changes required to accommodate the program’s evolving requirements. The EOM’s have a unique familiarity with the system (technically), the engineering designers and the Program requirement’s that makes them critical to leading technical and operations teams to develop analysis and impacts and present operations issues and provide risk mitigation scenarios to the Program. The EOM’s are responsible for planning the execution of Verification testing. The EOM provides the ability to interface with the program to understand and possibly negotiate their requirements and then communicate those requirements to the engineering or operations organizations and effect necessary changes in an element.Though the budget development and management has been transitioned, the EOM still retains the expert knowledge of the daily resource requirements necessary to operate and still plays an important role in the budgetary cycle. As Launch Vehicle Offline Processing EOM, I was the NASA Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the SLS booster pathfinder activity. This involved extensive integration within NASA, TOSC, and externally with the Army Corps of Engineers as well as the locomotive company that we contracted with for this effort. The pathfinder project was a complete success. A number of new technicians and crane operators received the training necessary to process SLS booster segments. We were also able to complete V&V on the modifications made to the build-up stand platforms and associated GSE.

This work includes design engineering, integration and execution of technical trade studies and analyses that establish and refine the ground operations architecture. Integration tasks include interfacing with appropriate stakeholders for all activities associated with establishing and maintaining the architecture baseline. Duties also include serving as a Program interface for integrated analysis activities and programmatic technical integration as well as support to various working groups and panels. The work also includes the establishment and execution of processes and forums to facilitate development, integration, and maintenance of architecture and technical products as well as measurement of performance in executing the technical baseline. Duties may also include monitoring contractors and assessing contractor work performance.

Integration Lead for the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) and all GSE related activities. Responsibilities include the overall planning, project management and integration activities associated with all aspects of the engineering effort relative to design, modification, enhancement, production, operation, and maintenance of KSC GSE subsystems. Matrix assignments with LX have provided opportunities to assemble and lead teams across a wide range of organizations including Level II Constellation Project stakeholders at KSC and JSC. Completed the VAB platform trade study, Lead of the integrated team to write the Orion/LAS Integration section of the Ground Operations Planning Document (GOPD) Volume 3 and the Concept of Operations for the Vertical Integration Element (VIE) PDR. Also played a key role in integrating the Constellation vehicle operations analysis on the VAB Platform Design Optimization and Alternate Platform Configuration tasks that threatened a significant delay in the CxP VAB design process. Also served as VAB Project Engineer to the Vertical Integration Element (VIE) team in development and review of all design activities of new GSE providing access to the CxP vehicle and inferfacing with the CxP VAB platforms.
