Do you have a career goal or lifelong dream? As a kid, mine was to play football for Notre Dame. I studied everything Lou Holts said or did—in high school I even wrote him a letter explaining why I needed to play for him.Years later, I ran into Coach Holts at an airport waiting for a flight. He was visiting with my girlfriend—she’d already filled him in about my letter to him, when she spotted me, “There’s Greg now.”He cut straight through the crowd and shook my hand. “Son,” he said, “if you’d have told me how fast you were, you’d have been playing at Notre Dame not BYU.”Lou spoke to me about goals for hours, so long that he missed two flights. Finally, he asked, “do you know what my job is?”I answered the obvious and he said, “No, football is HOW I do it. I build better fathers, better sons and husbands, better relationships. That’s WHAT I do.”I learned so much that afternoon that will stick with me for a lifetime. Whenever someone asks me what I do, I think about meeting Lou Holtz.I’m Greg Johnson and I should be talking about how my company has underwriting turn times of 12 hours and conditions are 24 hours and docs are 10 hours, or……how our loan officers and branch managers are some of the highest paid in the industry, or……that I’ve actually created programs for buyers the market doesn’t know exist.All that’s true, but what you need to know about me is that I know every one of our Loan Officers and Branch Managers, I know their names, and about their families.Because what we really do is create opportunities for Loan Officers and Branch Managers to be better, more successful this month than last month. I provide successful individuals oportunities to be better. This flows into every aspect of our lives. Better Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, and leaders.
