For 37 years I served as a fourth-grade teacher in Valparaiso, Indiana. I did not have a typical career in education (to say the least).For the last 23 years I have served as a board member for the United Way agency Family House. For over five years I was Board President of the organization. Family House serves abused and neglected children in Porter County, Indiana.For the last 25 years I have been a charter member of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso, Indiana. I have served as a board member and President of this club as well. For over 17 years I was the editor of the club newsletter.I am also a member of Christ Lutheran Church. For several years I served as fifth grade Sunday School teacher at the church.I have written two books: "The Hummingbird Defenders", and "The Dinosaur's Library". These books are both collections of stories, essays, and poems. The books are available on Amazon.com. I have also composed and recorded a musical CD of Electronic Space Music entitled "Solar Sunrise Space Hymns". It is available on Amazon.com as well.I retired from Parkview Elementary on June 9th, 2014. I became President & CEO of the North Pole Publishing company on the very same day. Our company's mission is to help aspiring authors and illustrators get their work to the reading public utilizing technology which is widely available but not fully understood. Also on June 9th I signed on to teach at the Summer Camp Program at Valparaiso University. The class I taught at that camp was called "Rocket Science".In November I also started working at the Challenger Learning Center in Hammond, Indiana. I am serving as a Mission Commander. We take groups of school kids on adventures to Mars, the moon, and to explore a comet. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) activities on these missions are engaging, fun, and exciting.
