Chief Engineer
Lead a group of 50 plus engineers that develop engine cooling, engine mounting, air induction and exhaust systems. Other direct reports included Product Development Team Leaders and Functional experts. Responsible for requirements documents, DFMEA’s, DVP and all engineering documentation. Signed off on all concept sheets and FESO documents at product launch. Led the technical team that successfully defeated a supplier’s claim of Navistar responsibility for a 30 million dollar field campaign. Successfully launched the 2010 emissions programs, multiple Global truck variations and several product portfolio programs that expanded our offerings. Led the team to develop cooling systems with world class heat rejection capability within the existing available package space.
Chief Program Engineer
Launched the C15 and C13 CAT engines in the ProStar vehicle. Responsible for the Q, C and D of all of the systems impacted by the engine installation on the truck. Filled the role of the Chassis PDT leader as well.
Senior Product Development Engineer
(Nov 2004 to July 2007) Chassis PDT Leader- MaxxForce Big Bore Engine- Led the design and development team that delivered all of the chassis effects of the engine. Co-inventor of a unique cooling system that has inherent advantages over conventional HD truck cooling systems. Held weekly meetings to address all development issues, drive the team to hold dates and led the more difficult technical issues that crossed multiple groups.(June 2001 to November 2004) Powertrain Manager- managed a group of eleven engineers that launched the 2004 6.0 liter V8 and the 2004 466 and 570 engines. Drove the team to make releases on time, insure designs were validated and vehicle performance met the established targets. On the 2007 MD engine emissions program, developed a concept to increase the cooling system performance without having to tool a new hood for the MD trucks. This led to a tooling savings of over 3 million dollars.(October 2000 to June 2001) Engineering Program Manager- DRIVE+ Program. This program was developing an all new conventional school bus vehicle. Led the team in attaining approval for Gates 1 and 2 on the program. Insured targets were set; concept sheets were completed on time that met the targets.(April 1998 to October 2000) MD Truck Product Center- worked with the program mangers on multiple programs to solve the tough technical issues. Approved cost reduction ideas before implementation to insure no deterioration of product quality.
Engineering Manager
Responsible for the product development on all dispenser products, developed department budget and goals, personnel development and training. Direct reports included mechanical design engineers, mechanical designers, electronic hardware engineers and drafters. Responsible to schedule, direct and develop the engineers and designers reporting to me. Reported to the VP of engineering. Authored the ISO 9000 product development process and procedures that were used to achieve certification. Applied for three patents which significantly changed the costs of our product.
Design Engineer
Lead engineer on the development of a completely new line of service station dispensers. Insured that the entire mechanical design effort was coordinated and seamless. Worked closely with manufacturing before and after the product launch to resolve issues. Designed the entire customer interface including the “pay at the pump” portion of the dispenser. Led the team that developed a new modular bill of material structure that reduced the drawing maintenance effort and cost. Designed die and sand castings, extrusions, stampings to package electronics, exterior glamour parts and frame systems. Designed the entire electronics enclosure including the customer interface for a new five-product blender dispenser. Pioneered the use of the 3M Light Films to evenly illuminate the twelve separate liquid crystal displays with one light source. Redesigned the customer interface on the high volume dispenser that saved over a million dollars.
