I had a fabulous career in the magazine publishing business for thirty-five years with great partners on two start-up ventures that followed a comparatively brief period in the most significant publishing corporation at the time. (Magazines are those things your parents used to read on weekends.)At the risk of putting you to sleep, I was either a Senior Partner, Senior V.P. and Group Publisher, President, or President & and C.E.O. of two $50-60 million companies we started from scratch. We had the good fortune to work with intelligent, fun C.P.G. clients and their fantastic ad agencies. It was the beginning, and I fear the end, of the work hard / play hard days. We were all very lucky!After retiring for a period, I entered the hockey industry to try to solve the rising problem of skate cuts. Three patents later and a licensing agreement led me to a decade of improving products and player safety. I'm currently the Safety Innovation Advisor to a company that is an expert in designing, sourcing, and manufacturing hockey equipment designed to eliminate catastrophic skate cuts in hockey permanently.As that goal is now within reach, I expect to be retired again within the next few years. When that happens, hockey players will be safer. And then, on to the next challenge!
