And I thrived. Responsible for all aspects of the campaign along with only the candidate, the contacts made, skills developed, & experience I gained is unduplicatable in such a short period of time. Without the traditional advantages available to politically “hand-picked” candidates, my role is well characterized as project manager in charge of overseeing & achieving effective messaging, current & past industry and opposition research, scheduling, event planning, strategy, marketing (digital, print, social-media, video & radio), being a candidate proxy when necessary, & managing a vast volunteer base diverse in geography, capabilities, & capacity. My past experiences & eagerness to learn were instrumental in our successes, but none could have prepared me for the attention to multitasking detail & the perfecting of each unique craft necessary for achievement of such an undertaking. My successes would have been impossible without the right candidate, but the responsibilities I held are often shared by a campaign staff of 9 or more. I averaged 1200 miles and 21 hours of travel weekly , as well as countless hours of full engagement & flourished at working from anywhere at all hours to manage an ultimate deadline. The schedule was full, the message was being delivered, and, despite many influences working against us, support for our campaign grew at an unprecedented rate. Ultimately, against the party-endorsed & President Trump-supported candidate & being outspent by 600%, we won 19 counties & nearly 40% of the vote total - a result still admired by political experts & news outlets - but not enough to win the Republican primary. Very early in my professional career did I develop my love for sales and commission-based compensation, but my style quickly matured from a transactional close approach to a consultative approach utilizing creative problem-solving skills to identify a source of pain and then the solution. I use this approach in every aspect of my life it has much to do with my successes professionally & personally. After 2.5 years (2010-2012) gaining experience in a completely different industry, BRAG ownership pursued me to return for a promotion and an opportunity to lead in the dealership I helped open in 2006. As the sales manager of 10+ high performers, I learned extensively that what motivates each one of us is as unique as we are. While the "carrot or the stick" approach may work for some, it also can have opposite the intended result. For many, respect, recognition and appreciation can provide all the motivation necessary for continual improvement. There is little more rewarding than the opportunity to mentor someone into achieving more and becoming their best.
