Volunteering as a swim coach gives me the opportunity to use my background in the sport to give back to my community, as well as be involved in the sport my kids are passionate about. As an assistant coach, I'm primarily responsible for planning and delivering practices for groups of up to 40 athletes at a time, ranging in age from 7 to 18, and in ability from beginner to provincial champion. I also attend meets and provide athletes with strategy and feedback on their races, and handle administrative tasks such as entries, scratches, and relay team composition.

Working at CGI has provided me with the opportunity to work with a number of different public sector clients, and gain a wealth of experience in all aspects of the full software development lifecycle. Working in the roles of Technical Team Lead, Senior Developer, and Solution Architect, I have been instrumental in successfully delivering a large number of projects for CGI’s clients, including the BC Ministries of Health, Education, and Justice, as well as the Public Health Agency of Canada. Working in Java, I've developed a multitude of web applications using the Struts, Spring, and Java Server Faces frameworks against Oracle, Mysql, Postgres, and Sql Server relational databases. Using Apache Camel, I've created messaging integration platforms that allow communication between different health systems. I've designed the deployment architecture for highly available systems running on-premise as well as in the cloud. I've collaborated with other developers using VSS, CVS, SVN and Git. I've containerized applications using docker. I've used Jenkins for CI/CD. I've implemented unit, integration, and performance tests. More recently, I have also started to work on more web projects using Javascript frameworks such as React and Vue.

Working on SLR Booth has been an incredibly valuable experience for me. While I've always worked on personal projects, this was the first time I took one from a tinkering hobby to a commercial product. Along the way, I got my first experiences with Android and iOS development, Javascript Single Page Applications, AWS cloud infrastructure, RESTFul web services, nosql databases, usb programming, internationalization, the IPP and PTP protocols, and JavaFX. It also gave me exposure to areas of the software business that developers don't always get to see, such as branding, advertising, and direct customer support.
