I am Greg Pitt, from South Africa; living in Malawi since 2013. I have been working with dogs since 1998. I have known about Service Dogs since 2010. When I was struggling with Multiple Sclerosis, I got Max, a Lab mix to be my constant companion. When I was better,I enrolled in a dog training course. I did the basic obedience course and was hooked to the way it made me feel working with dogs. I did my follow on training to become a instructor at the South African Dog training college. I looked back and realized how much Max had helped me and the Service Dog concept became more real and personal to me. Because I consider Malawi my home, this is the place that I want to develop a Service and Facility Dog Program. For many months I contacted many organizations in America and the UK for assistance in training me and helping me set up a Service Dog organization here in Malawi.I was rewarded with a response from a Bergin University graduate that agreed to come to Blantyre for 6 weeks to train me, 5 apprentice trainers and 6 dogs.I am now dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and illnesses by creating a mutually beneficial partnership between specially trained Service Dogs, Facility Dogs and their person or facility.
