The cranes were designed to aid in the construction of 3 observatories, be centrally located on the top floor, rotate 360 degrees and transport materials/ equipment in both the interior and exterior of the building.• Supervised and documented the crane rigging and loading of three truck loads of large steel structural pieces from an outside vender’s shop to be shipped out of the country.• Designed custom opto-mechanical parts and mechanical assemblies with precision moving parts and fixtures/jigs used for optical testing, manufacturing and installation of products.• Create and maintain detailed component and assembly CAD drawings; parts research and specifications for BoM for production using 2D AutoCAD. • Hands-on fabrication of custom prototype astronomical telescopes and research instruments from cradle to grave; which consist of machined and pre-fabricated metal parts, electrical components such as servo motors, position encoders, sensors/switches and mirrors/lenses. • Create, inspect and fabricate detailed parts and assemblies from engineering drawings and specifications using mills, lathes, TIG welder, presses and other machine shop equipment.• Traveled locally, throughout Colorado, and internationally, to India, to install and service telescopes and instruments, including a solo trip to India to resolve issues with a hydrostatic bearing system found during installation.
