Following graduation from Mt. Clemens High School, I worked for awhile in retail, landed a job at the Chrysler Heavy Truck Plant on 9 Mile and Mound and was a proud member of the UAW. Like now, times were tough in 1974 and I was laid-off. It was then that I began the first step that became his life career. I got a job as a Security Guard for the Mt. Clemens Public Schools. Within two years, I began his career with the Macomb County Sheriff's Department working in the county jail as a “turnkey.” A year later I was promoted to Deputy Sheriff and was assigned to road patrol.I resisted promotions for several years. I enjoyed working with public, providing safety in the neighborhoods and communities he patrolled and getting the bad guys off the streets. In 1993, Sheriff William Hackel pursued me to accept a promotion and my rapid rise through the ranks in the department began. Throughout his 35 years with the Sheriff's Department, in addition to making several thousand arrests, I worked in most of the major areas, including corrections, road patrol, court security, undercover, detective, homeland security and command. I am committed to the safety of our families, neighborhoods and communities is just as deep and strong as the 180 year commitment his family has had to Macomb County.
