Created and oversaw the domestic launch of the Grind2Energy system, which quickly converts large volumes of food waste to pulp that can be stored and then shipped to anaerobic digesters to produce renewable fuel and solids used as fertilizer. The system is used at businesses including The Ohio State University, where it has reduced trash and hauling costs by thousands of dollars each year at the university’s Blackwell Inn and Conference Center. The project has created more than 16 jobs at InSinkErator, which launched a new business unit to handle development, marketing, sales and service, and created growth opportunities for suppliers and other companies with which Emerson partners.

Oversaw new product development, manufacturing and service as the sole engineer for InSinkErator’s commercial food service disposals and systems. Worked with suppliers, purchasing, marketing and other departments to bring new products to market, keep production flowing and maintain quality. Received two patents, one for a visual food detection system that helped save water and energy and another for a replaceable auger brush unique to the market.

Received four patents for designs for fairway mower reels that were created as part of a new product launch for Jacobsen, a leading manufacturer of equipment used on golf courses, stadiums and parks. Designed the first reels in the industry that could have the motor attached on either side and be used in any position on the tractor, reducing the number of parts that had to be stocked. The design also simplified service because the reels could be swapped out without the need for tools.
