  • Ford Motor Co
    Director, Corporate Finance

Senior Finance executive with broad global experience in all aspects of international business and financial management. As Director, Corporate Finance, I reported to the VP Finance - Corporate Controller and had responsibility for design, deployment and quality operation of Ford's global Accounting and Finance systems. I also directed Ford's global internal control organization, including all aspects of the Sarbanes-Oxley management, reporting and certification financial processes. As part of these responsibilities, I led a joint Business-IT team and the Ford Finance Six-Sigma team in the largest process and systems re-engineering effort it had ever undertaken, with the goal of commonizing, simplifying and automating Ford's global financial processes in order to improve data quality and reduce Finance and accounting resources. Significant results included an 80% improvement in financial statement errors, and facilitation of 30% resource efficiencies in Ford's global Finance and Accounting team.
  • Ford European Automotive Operations
    Financial Controller/ Strategy Director
    Ford European Automotive Operations 1997 - 2000
I was recruited to Europe by the Ford CFO, John Devine. Initially, I was assigned as the European Business Strategy manager, working with Bain and Company to create a turnaround plan for Ford's European operations, which had performed poorly throughout the early 1990's. A plan to re-position Ford's brands, restructure the operations, and sell-off excess assets was developed and approved by the Ford BOD. I was then appointed as FOE Financial Controller, reporting to the Ford Europe CFO, Henry Wallace, with responsibility for leading the turnaround implementation effort, negotiating acquisitions and disposals and directing the Ford European Finance Staff. Results included significant fixed cost reductions and a return to operating profitability by 2000. In addition, more than $1 billion in cash was generated through asset and balance sheet efficiencies.
  • Ford Motor Company New And Emerging Markets
    Finance Director
Ford Motor Company New And Emerging Markets 1992 - 1997
Regional "CFO" reporting to the Executive VP, International Operations. As the senior Finance leader for operations in South America, Asia and Africa, I led development of business strategy, investment plans, and cash management for the region, provided operational analysis, recruited JV partners, and created a start-up Finance organization in Asia. Key accomplishments included:• Finance lead negotiating the dissolution of Autolatina, an existing Ford/VW joint venture in Brazil and Argentina. These negotiations resulted in a $1 billion cash premium to Ford in addition to the return of all Ford-branded assets, and re-launch of the successful Ford-owned businesses in Brazil and Argentina, I then co-managed (with VW) the major effort to separate the operations and introduce Ford's global systems.• Lead Finance negotiator for Ford’s controlling stake in Mazda, the first of its kind by a non-Japanese firm. This included sensitive negotiations with Mazda, Sumitomo Bank, and government officials. • Led negotiations and implementation of new joint-venture companies in South Africa, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China resulting in continued growth in revenue and positive operating cash flow for Ford.• Directed all financial strategies, approvals and implementations for the development of two manufacturing facilities and one service center in India. This allowed the transition of global finance functions to these service centers as part of a Low Cost Country sourcing strategy. As a result of these accomplishments, I was selected to participate in Ford's first Capstone Executive Education Program. This program gave high-potential executives the opportunity to tackle challenging global problems and make recommendations to Alex Trotman (Ford CEO) and the Ford Executive Committee. Our project team recommendations on integrating regional and global strategy and operations foreshadowed the One Ford strategy now in place.
