Greg Kuchmek is a graphic designer with many years experience, mainly working in multi-media web design and animation. For the past five years at TERC, he has mainly focused on animation in Flash. In his current role as senior designer and animator for Investigating Astronomy, Greg works with astronomers and educators to design a website that overviews junior-high level astronomy, and Flash animations that allow kids to learn as they play. For NowCasting, Greg worked with museum directors and meteorologists to design a website that overviews short-term weather prediction, and Flash animations that allow people to try their own hand at predicting the weather. For Exposing Earth, he designed a website and created animations that guide people to viewing satellite photos as both art and as a scientific tool. In 2003, for Science for Today and Tomorrow, Greg designed animations that illustrated basic biological processes in an accurate, clear and engaging way. Earlier in 2003 in his work on the Marsquest project, Greg created original illustrations and animations to attract junior high school students to explore the recent findings of the Mars explorations. He began at TERC working on creating and adapting images and animations for an on-line supplement of the Exploring Earth, a science curriculum for junior high school students.Prior to his work at TERC, Greg designed websites for a variety of clients including Aquent, IKEA, and the US Navy. He has also been involved in a number of multi-media projects, such as creating a series of animated spots for Japanese television and a Palace internet discussion site for Prodigy. His formal education is in graphic design and photography.
