Project Photon is the VMware Linux container host, designed to support Docker, rkt and Garden containerized applications. It adds the complexity of being an open source product in the extremely fast-changing devops world. I'm working to understand the cultural, operational and technical impact of the shift to devops and managing the definition and delivery of Photon to make containers more accessible and capable in virtualized environments. As Product Line Manager within the Suite Business Unit at VMware, I'm focused on developing shared platform components - specifically, the appliance container, the logging infrastructure and shared services architecture - that will allow VMware to evolve the current set of products into a well-engineered suite of products that deliver a unified software-defined datacenter. For the appliance container, I'm defining what customers want in the non-product, OS-level management environment. The goal is to create a consistent Linux-based container that is secure, with a robust lifecycle-management framework, complete operational and graphical interfaces and, then, to have this underpin the majority of the VMware management appliances. On the logging infrastructure, we're trying to establish a more consistent logging expereince - from logging libraries, through formats, semantics, transport and, ultimately, analysis. For the shared services architecture, our teams are establishing the foundational elements that will underpin products to provide consistency across discrete products and within the definition of the engineered suite. All of these require cross-functional coordination throughout the company and the ability to manage multiple levels of requirements from both internal and external customers.

As the Alliance Development Manager, I handle the strategic technology alignment between VMware and HP. The role encompasses integration and differentiation opportunities in the existing joint product portfolio, as well as long-term roadmap and 3-year technology horizon. My team walks the line between VMware and HP technology to understand the implementation, application and potential customer impact of a collaborative effort. We help bring together server, storage, software and desktop technologies in an effort to differentiate the HP/VMware solutions. The role requires a firm grasp on technologies, from the chipsets to the datacenters, and requires superior communication skills to manage the CTO-level relationship between the companies.

As Manager of the VMware vCloud Partner Strategy, I seek to understand the opportunities and needs of our technical partner ecosystem and drive the processes and priorities to product management and partner-facing teams that will enable differentiated joint solutions.
