Completing any product withdrawals issued by suppliers as a legal duty, keeping an accurate count of the stock that is in the store to ensure that our store is as profitable as possible, ensure that when there are new products to go out into the store that the guidelines are followed to the letter so we are compliant with the suppliers demands.On top of the key elements of the job it is also necessary to keep the shelves stocked as much as possible by working with the colleagues around me and managing them in the most effective way possible, the team consists of 20 colleagues and I manage around 10 colleagues a day on various shifts and areas of the shop. We are measured on several areas including product availability, waste and wages, these are measured daily so we can adjust accordingly, we are also appraised every 6 months for a full breakdown of what has happened throughout the department and how we can improve.There are also jobs that need to be completed by all section leaders, these include return to work interviews, calling colleagues whilst they are off sick to see how they are doing and if there is anything else we can do for them, completing colleague rotas up to 4 weeks in advanced as well as approving and declining holidays for colleagues.     I start my shift by thoroughly checking our home shopping vehicles for any defects that makes them unsafe/illegal to drive, if any defects are found I then have to log them with our service provider to get them fixed as soon as possible. From that point I then have to make sure that everyone’s order is picked and sent through the tills. If this isn’t done correctly our till system will be over or short costing the business. From that point I then have to make sure that everyone’s order is picked and sent through the tills. If this isn’t done correctly our till system will be over or short costing the business. I then need to make sure that our vehicles are loaded and get out on time, it is important that we deliver on time as it is one of our targets. We also get judged on accuracy, this is measured by how many items we substitute for different items and how many refunds we do every day.Once all this is complete we make sure that our till balances by comparing the total with a report that we print off after all our orders have been processed through the till, if it does not balance there has generally been an issue during the processing and I then have to find the reason for that which is generally straight forward. When all the morning processing is done I am then required to work through the colleague schedule for up to 3 weeks in advanced taking into account colleague holidays, we also work out our hours via Volume adjusted sales, this means that our schedules can change on a day by day basis which can be very problematic. I also have to check that every colleague that works for the department has received the required training and any new training is completed within the time scale allotted by the head office. The department accrues a lot of paperwork every day and we have to make sure it’s all secured or destroyed following the correct procedure. On top of these key responsibilities I am also charged with managing a team of up to 50 colleagues’ at any one time, I also have to deal with customers via the phone and sometimes in person to deal with any problems they received with their deliveries.
