I initially worked as a web and data generalist for the Advocacy and Public Policy division.• Migrated legacy web infrastructures and content to self-hosted WordPress; trained non-technical staff on content creation. Operated and administered WordPress sites.• Programmed multiple WordPress themes for policy-specific microsites and flagship website.• Created Rails-based web application for importing, organizing, and searching content collected through Convio web forms. The success of this prototype led to the creation of the stori.es product.• Supported division's email marketing efforts.• Programmed custom scripts for tactical data projects.

The Coastal Preservation and Development Foundation (CPAD) was an NGO focused on the application of scientific method to the problems of climate change and development in coastal regions. I volunteered my computing expertise and manpower to design and implement the organization's database infrastructure using Microsoft Access. I re-designed the organization's Microsoft Excel data collection spreadsheets for seamless database integration using a Visual Basic ADODB data layer. I earned several scuba diving certifications to help with the organization's coral reef data collection efforts.

Open Forge was a technical support startup. I joined as a partner and tackled on-site troubleshooting, game console repair and modification, on-call support, and business strategy. I performed due diligence for a project to build a LAN gaming center in Austin. I analyzed the international gaming ecosystem, determining why LAN houses have succeeded in countries such as South Korea, Taiwan and Brazil but not in the United States. Since that time, my travels in southeast Asia have included visits to "PC bangs" (gaming rooms) where I have further explored this theme.

I was employed as a software engineer at Hoover's, a business information aggregating service. I worked with a small team to port, maintain and enhance the company's primary internal data entry application. I was hired as a contractor to help migrate an existing TCL codebase to a J2EE open source framework. I was invited to join the company after successful application launch and migration of 80 fulltime editors to the new platform. Subsequently, I led a successful redesign and refactoring project using domain knowledge developed throughout the project.

I was employed at the Latin American Network Information Center (LANIC) on a six month grant to assist in the development of three projects. First, I was solely responsible for the transfer of the Latin American Research Review (LARR) online database from a Linux server at the University of New Mexico to a Windows 2000 server at UT. The second project involved the redesign of another UT online database, the Latin American Periodical Table of Contents (LAPTOC). For the third project, it was my responsibility to set up LANIC's new Sun IT infrastructure.

The Cobalt Group is a leading Internet service and technology provider for the automotive industry. I worked as a Java Software Engineer for Cobalt helping to develop their initial J2EE platform offering; my efforts helped a development team working on a content management service and application. This experience touched all programming tiers: from JSP/servlet work in a Jakarta Struts environment to session bean and JDBC work. We developed using TogetherJ, coordinated with developers in Seattle using CVS, and deployed to BEA WebLogic Server. This experience solidified my interest in developing code on the J2EE enterprise software development platform and reinforced the necessity of continuous professional education.

The PC/S application processed 2.45 billion dollars of IBM orders in 1999.Intranet Communications Manager (November 1st - May 15th) - I helped create this position within the growing organization to enhance communications amongst the group and its partners.Development Team Lead (June 1st - November 1st) - As DevTeam Lead, I was responsible for the development of four production releases of the PC/S order processing application. I managed a team of five developers through the design and development of a series of major system enhancements, handled emergency situations with the production application, and acted as the voice and umbrella between Development and upper management.Internet Application Developer (February 2nd - June 1st) - I joined PC/S as a Perl developer.
