As Director of Technology for Rockingham County Public Schools I lead a team of highly-skilled people to implement safe, compliant, and effective digital learning tools for +11,600 students in grades PK-12 across 25 schools. I collaborate closely with RCPS stakeholders and other school divisions to empower all learners with technology. The 5 C’s are at the core of everything I do (Critical thinkers, Communicators, Collaborators, good Citizens, and Creators).Technology can provide powerful tools for instruction, but must be deployed with student safety as the primary objective. I ensure digital learning tools have been vetted by our team for student safety, and are compliant with the policies set forth by the School Board of RCPS, and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.I lead the development and implementation of the county-wide technology plan. I provide leadership to teachers and administrators in promoting the use of technology for instruction. I participate in school and community functions that aid in promoting and explaining technology programs.I lead the RCPS Data Privacy Team which consists of leadership, technology, and instructional staff with the goal of protecting stakeholder data and privacy. We plan and implement policies for PII protection, physical and logical network security, network and server security audits, cybersecurity training for all RCPS staff, and cyber disaster prevention and preparedness. My efforts helped RCPS earn the CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal.As a steward of taxpayer dollars, I fulfill all financial responsibilities for technology programs including budgets, E-Rate, procurement, purchase orders, grants, and awards.Personally, I have never felt more pride about my work than when I see a tool that our team has worked so hard to provide making a difference in a child’s education.

I designed, procured, deployed, and maintained servers and networking equipment for +11,600 students in grades PK-12 across 25 schools. I worked independently and with technicians, teachers, staff, leadership, parents and guardians, police, contractors, vendors, VDOE, and other RCPS stakeholders to ensure students have safe and effective digital learning tools. I performed E-Rate procurement preparation, budgeting, project management, compliance, reporting, training, web development, and electronic discovery.DISASTER RECOVERY: Designed and deployed DR plan including immutable backups using Veeam, Wasabi, and SysCloud. This DR plan helped RCPS earn the CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal.NETWORK: Designed and deployed Aruba wireless system with 1,500 wifi access points, 7 clustered controllers, isolated guest network, and firewall policies. Deployed LAN, WAN, and cloud firewalls. There were so many other server and network changes and upgrades… too many to fit in a LinkedIn profile!VSPHERE: Designed and deployed vSphere environment with 6 hosts and a Compellent SAN with 75 VMs. Converted dozens of Windows and Linux physical servers to VMs. Years later, deployed a VxRail environment.GOOGLE WORKSPACE: Created the Google Apps For Education environment in 2014, migrated +2,000 users to Gmail in 2016, managed thousands of ChromeOS devices, deployed Rapid Identity (account automation), implemented security settings such as 2SV for staff, content filters, DLP, quarantines, walled gardens, and so much more.OTHER: Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory, DNS, VOIP, SCADA, CCTV, KnowBe4, SSL certs, Microsoft 365 Education, Zoom Enterprise, and many more networked devices and services.

I worked independently and with teams to design, procure, deploy, and maintain servers and networking equipment for a wide variety of clients including small businesses, large energy and mining companies, state and local governments, and internal corporate departments.Disaster Recovery: Designed a DR solution using Veeam that utilized multiple proxies, a Dell TL200 tape library, and SureBackup for automated data integrity tests.VMware vSphere: Maintained a vSphere environment with 12 hosts across 8 branch offices throughout the USA, and more than 125 virtual machines. Converted dozens of servers from physical to virtual.Dell Compellent SAN: Maintained a fiber channel SAN consisting of redundant Compellent controllers, 40TB of mixed-tier storage, and Brocade switches.Windows Server 2008 and 2012: Deployed and maintained more than 100 virtual and physical Windows servers with thousands of Active Directory objects, dozens of Group Policy Objects, DFS namespaces, Windows Server Update Services, Windows Deployment Services, System Center Endpoint Protection, and System Center Configuration Manager. I remotely managed servers for hundreds of users across the USA, Guam, Egypt, and Afghanistan. I provided advanced technical support for the Assistive Technology Help Desk for Employees With Disabilities at the Social Security Administration (contracted). I traveled frequently across the USA for mass computer deployments, providing training, and running the booth at industry trade shows. I maintained Windows servers with hundreds of AD objects. I performed project management, compliance, budgeting, reporting, and training functions.Assistive Technology Support: JAWS, MAGic, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Duxbury, Kurzweil 1000, WinSet, NexTalk VM, Braille embossers, Braille displays, OCR scanners, specialized keyboards and pointing devices, magnification units (CCTV’s), and Section 508 compliance testing.Symantec Ghost Server: Deployed and maintained Ghost server and images which reduced computer deployment times.Deployment Packages: Created and maintained software deployment packages to efficiently distribute software using Macrovision FlexNet AdminStudio, batch script, VBScript, and Group Policy.Windows Server 2003: Managed two corporate servers with hundreds of AD objects, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, thousands of files, and maintained off-site backups with tape for protection against cyber attacks. Joined computers to the Social Security Administration domain controllers.Training Programs: Created and executed technical training programs for employees with disabilities. Trade Shows and Client Acquisition: Designed a booth system for trade shows, traveled to many cities, and ran the booth to make contact with potential new customers. Helped design pamphlets, branded merchandise, and other promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite.

I deployed and maintained Windows 2000 servers, networking equipment, Windows 98 and XP computers, peripherals, a VTEL video conferencing system for distance learning, and A/V equipment.Servers: Deployed and maintained a Ghost server and images which significantly reduced computer deployment times. My team used the Ghost server to upgrade hundreds of computers from Windows 98 to Windows XP. Deployed and maintained two Windows 2000 servers with Active Directory, Group Policies, hundreds of AD objects, DHCP, and DNS.Distance Learning: Deployed and maintained a VTEL video conferencing system for distance learning. At the time distance learning was a very new concept, and I worked hard to tune the system to ensure students and teachers could communicate effectively.Training Programs: Created and executed technical training programs for employees and technicians.Awards: I received three certificates of appreciation for my hard work in this position.
