  I founded the academy and have had the privilege of participating in its growth and success. The staff, teachers and volunteers have been encouraged to be creative and think outside the box of formal classroom instruction, to increase learning excitement in students. Staff training is a priority and encouraged in areas of need. Every student that enrolls on site is: -given an academic evaluation and an individual education plan - required with parents to be interviewed by me for acceptance - will be given a weekly communication on his/her progress by each teacherI have also now instituted a way for homeschool families, children who cannot attend school for different reasons, and adults. My teachers are able to teach online courses through programs of Heartwood. High school students can takes credit classes, AP College Credit classes, and even adults can recover lost high school credits and receive them through the Academy. The courses I offer are from grades 1-12. There is a staff person available for help, assistance, and advice.The success of our students and joy in the parents eyes when Heartwood children receive awards for art, music, essay writing, science experiments, etc. and their willingness to volunteer in their communities speaks volumes to the work my staff and I accomplish each year.I happily keep my fingers in the teaching realm and enjoy imparting new skills and increasing existing ones in the fileds of math and science.
