About Gretchen Erpenbach
It’s the challenge that I love as a long-time leader in the wine and spirits industry—taking over a new market, learning the intricacies of each state’s laws and distributor requirements, and building profitable relationships with the distributors themselves. It’s also the thrill of knowing that whatever the accountability is in relation to driving wine and sales, I excel in it: pricing, invoicing, team building, and programming—from wine tastings and dinners to festivals. And, that no matter what the goal is, I persist in attaining it—whether it’s to diversify sales channels by capitalizing on-/off-premise sales or increasing year-over-year case sales and depletions, I make critical decisions and individualize strategic business plans. As a sales leader at multi-sized companies, I help set our products and brands apart from larger competitors. Using strong organizational skills, I expertly handle the myriad of minute details that result in big-picture goal achievement. I simultaneously ignite the competitiveness in my sales teams, drive buy-in from distributors, and spur loyalty from new and existing customers. A dynamic presenter/public speaker who connects with audiences at any level, I excel at strategizing and executing events such as dinners and tastings. I also handle the nuts and bolts of lean operations management from inventory control and trend analysis to report generation and business reviews.
Listed skills include Customer Service, Strategic Planning, Negotiation, Sales, and 27 others.

Regional Sales Director - Southeast/Mid-Atlantic
CurrentIn addition to my previous Southeast Region responsibilities, I now also manage the Mid-Atlantic Region (DC, DE, MD, VA, WV) for Precept Wine - the largest, privately-owned wine company in the Northwest. I manage a total brand business of 400K cases and $25M in annual revenue. I am eager to utilize the business-building strategies that have proven successful in my other markets to elevate this region's revenue, depletions, and overall market presence in 2024.
Southeast Regional Sales Director
CurrentI currently lead all aspects of brand growth and revenue generation in the Southeast Region (AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, TN) for the largest, privately-owned wine company in the Northwest. I manage a total brand business of 325K cases and $20M in annual revenue AND GROWING! I'm responsible for all aspects of compliance, inventory management and procurement, pricing strategies and execution, budget management, forecasting, and distributor motivation and accountability. Upon joining Precept, I was quickly able to stabilize our distributor network in the Southeast through state-by-state SKU rationalization, a complete pricing and forecasting overhaul, brand relaunches and education, and state-specific three-year growth plans.I enjoy mentoring and motivating our current sales teams and ambassadors within the region to develop their skills to help us all achieve our sales goals. With my experience, I am able to apply deep market knowledge to quickly respond to changes in the competitive landscape and current dynamic sales climate making me and my brands an essential partner to our distributor network and most valued customers. Most importantly, I am learning to master the 12 Precepts by developing and maximizing meaningful relationships, creating customer nirvana, utilizing purposeful communication, engaging in high-payoff activities, having fun, and more!
Ferrari-Carano East Region Manager
I spearheaded the transition and incorporation of the Ferrari-Carano brand into the Foley Family Wines portfolio in the Eastern Division after FFW acquired Ferrari-Carano in the summer of 2020. I managed all distributor networks, pricing strategies, programming, profit analysis, sales incentives, inventory, invoicing, and brand education for nine states (DC, DE, FL, MD, NH, NY, PA, RI, SC). I continued to grow the already well-established brand footprint through market and trend analysis, state-specific programming and revamped marketing and social media initiatives.Like many, I pivoted to focus heavily on off-premise sales during the global Coronavirus pandemic, carefully aligning our brand with relevant markets. I was able to retain sales due to already strong consumer loyalty and price points as well as inventive social media strategies such as digital coupons and targeted ads. I also championed our brand as a must-have, profitable “carry out” or “delivery” option for the on-premise channel where legally allowed through continual interaction with distributors and accounts that were both looking for innovative ideas to drive volume and revenue.
Southeast Regional Manager
As the driver of consistent year-over-year growth, I spur sales of the company’s 20 product SKUs through 13 distributors in 9 states and the Caribbean. With core accountabilities that span trends identification and analysis, I also design programming for individual markets, comply with each state’s requirements, and maintain strong relationships with distributors and partners. And, when the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic hit our markets, I helped retain sales and profitability by redirecting my team to focus on off-premise sales—a channel that had already seen steady growth under my leadership. Our products remained a “go-to” choice for our customers through already strong loyalty combined with promotional strategies that included digital coupons and more robust social media engagement.
Area Manager - Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina
As the catalyst for 15% annual growth, I managed 4 distributors in the North and South Carolina markets. To ensure fulfillment of a key company goal, I also broadened the number of off-premise channels to include Publix, Harris Teeter, and Costco. I also introduced an ambassador incentive program that motivated staff to exceed performance goals.
Florida State Manager
Initially, I led wine tastings, dinners, and other events—delivering such notable results that my duties quickly expanded to include management of wine distributors and partners, pricing/invoicing, and marketing. A naturally adaptable communicator, I also initiated relationships with decision makers at top hotels and facilities regionwide while dually formulating strategies to effectively spotlight company brands and products in a heavily crowded market.
Business Development Manager - Hotels & Resorts
Under my leadership, the company expanded its footprint at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios and other well-known hotels, resorts, and theme parks. I drove sales of 2K SKUs, including whiskeys, vodkas, and wine representing 100 brands to 500 clients.Through my top sales performance, I bested colleagues statewide—including the high-volume southern Florida region—to win the Business Development Manager of the Year award. I generated interest in company brands by creating wine lists, feature programs, and wine-by-the glass initiatives.
Sales Manager
I transformed the growth of the Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Daytona Beach markets both through training and mentoring of 5 district manager reports and skilled analysis of sales and product trends. I directed multiple supplier initiatives, product launches, and incentive programs to capture continually changing sales goals. As the manager of 1,100 on-premise customers, I delivered multimillion-dollar revenue growth through sales of 300K+ cases.
Assistant Sales Manager
Assisted the Sales Manager with goal assignment and program tracking, supplier relations, sales training, management mentoring and customer support
District Manager
Managed a team of four sales representatives, specializing in high-volume restaurants, mid-level hotels, nightclubs, wine bars, independent fine wine retail and local multi-unit luxury restaurant chains.
