As SVP of Communications Gretchen leads a multi-division department of more than 100 employees with capabilities in video, content development, digital media, media relations, and research. She manages multimillion-dollar marketing and communication budgets focused on the community’s efforts to empower social entrepreneurs to break the barriers that stand in the way of people realizing their potential.- Supports more than 200 community organizations in their efforts to address persistent poverty, which limits both individuals’ and communities’ ability to contribute to society.- Develops messaging to empower millions of grassroots activists across all 50 states to improve public policy through nonpartisan advocacy.

As part of this effort, she actively works with more than 1,000 scholars and tens of thousands of teachers to improve education at the university and K-12 levels.

Gretchen created and built to immediate success a campaign consultancy offering a broad range of advice on communications and messaging, media training, and advice and interpretation on polling and focus groups. She also advised nonprofit organizations on branding and messaging regarding national policy issues. In both campaigns and on behalf of nonprofits she designed and executed communication strategies and wrote speeches, media content, and press releases.

Created and built to a position of recognition and influence an advocacy organization consisting of related 501c4 and 501c3 components with a staff of 35 and a multimillion-dollar budget. Hired and mentored a talented and committed staff, led fundraising among a network of high-net-worth donors, and managed day-to-day operations. Developed and executed the organization’s overall strategy, which included communications, messaging, and advertising campaigns. Served as chief spokesperson for the organization and provided on-air interviews for radio and television.- Led the creation of multiple advertising campaign, selecting and guiding the work of agencies and creative.- Three successful advertising campaigns received recognition from AdWeek for top ads targeting independent voters.- Generated op-eds that appeared in Investor’s Business Daily, Roll Call, USA Today, and U.S. News & World Report.
