Hey everyone! My name is Gerardo Rojas, a recent graduate from California State University Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In my academic journey, my coursework provided a strong foundation in engineering principles, including fluid dynamics, strength of materials, machine design and finite element analysis. This led me to an interest in energy and environmental engineering. My interest in energy was cultivated with my current role at YDG Engineers, where I became proficient in my ability to interpret and create AutoCAD drawings of HVAC systems in residential areas. Some of my duties included physically going and doing on site evaluations of current HVAC systems and sketching those systems by hand. By getting comfortable with being uncomfortable I was able to successfully optimize my work so I could get more done in a smaller time frame. I knew I enjoyed environmental engineering when I worked on my senior design project; where I collaborated with a team to design a self-sustainable solar array system for Channel Islands National Park. This project involved site inspections, technical report writing, and client presentations to park officials – experiences that translate to real world skills I could use in industry.
