I joined Mentum Systems, now part of Atturra, to introduce its smart phone applications into Australia's correctional markets and concurrently help enhance Mentum's Defence decision support solutions. I have a particular interest in improving offender compliance in the community by blending monitoring and communication technologies into less intrusive solutions. I am also working on applications that improve the way Defence metrics are used to produce more effective management controls.

I primarily worked on an ADF project to deliver modern telecommunication solutions to nearly 300 bases throughout Australia. Focused on timely solutions, and collaborating closely with Telstra, I was responsible for the delivery of over $100m of critical enabling infrastructure. I also led various teams assisting Home Affairs with the installation of new passenger arrival gates and a variety of substantial Defence refurbishment and construction projects.

I led an ACT Govt Waste Feasibility Study to improve waste management in the Territory. I explored a variety of innovative new technologies, then undertook a Market Sounding to inform an eventual roadmap of regulatory change and new infrastructure to help reduce waste production, meet ambitious recycling targets and prevent unnecessary waste going to landfill. Closely engaging with passionate industry and community groups, I encouraged collaboration and created excitement about viable ACT waste opportunities.

G4S is a multinational security company that operates in more than 110 countries and has over 600,000 employees worldwide. In Australia, G4S operate private prisons, prisoner transport contracts, and are responsible for a variety of court security, forensic hospital and custodial contracts, including the electronic monitoring of offenders in the community.I was responsible for over 1,000 staff in 14 contracts spread throughout Australia with revenue of A$150m. Working from Melbourne, I managed the operational and commercial performance of prison, prisoner transport, ambulance and other security contracts in Vic, SA, NSW, NT and Tas.

I was responsible for over 500 staff operating G4S transport and electronic monitoring contracts in Vic, SA and NZ with revenue of over $150m. My prisoner transport contracts in Vic and SA had a combined fleet of 50 vehicles, plus I was responsible for 60 Non-Emergency ambulances in Vic. I closely managed the electronic monitoring of 1,000 offenders in SA, Vic, NT and another 3,000 in NZ. I was responsible for introducing GPS, alcohol monitoring and other biometric based technologies into Australia.

I was responsible for over 650 staff operating seven Immigration Detention Centres in Australia and the occupation of a new facility built on Christmas Island. Working from Canberra, I led a small managerial team that ensured up to 2,500 detainees were cared for using permanent and fly-in fly-out staff in a contract that exceeded $100m pa.

I was responsible for the operational performance of G4S General Managers running eight Immigration Detention Centres. Carefully managing KPIs and labour, I ensured all G4S facilities were operated efficiently and effectively, and that every effort was made to ensure detainees received the highest standards of care.

I was responsible for drawing together a variety of similar, but largely state based Immigration Detention Centre operational policies and procedures to create consistent national documentation that was supported by a variety of KPIs, communications and meetings to ensure contractual compliance.

Diplomatic – As a Military Attaché, I was responsible for representing the NZ Army at senior ADF and DFAT operational meetings in Canberra, and for attending a variety of conferences and other activities that required senior military representation.Coordination – As a Chief of Staff working to the Commander of the NZ Army's deployable units, I was responsible for ensuring each element maintained its operational readiness and achieved its KPIs. I also led a Headquarters staff, coordinating the work of multiple branches. This was the same role I undertook for six months on operations with the United Nations in East Timor.Leadership - Commanding a 500 person Artillery Regiment, I was responsible for the NZ Army's artillery and ground-based air defence capabilities. I also led other NZDF personnel in a variety of missions that supported civilian agencies responding to natural and man-made disasters. Project Management - I was the NZ Army's project manager for a quarter billion dollar Light Armoured Vehicle acquisition. I carefully articulated the Army's operational and logistic needs and project managed a team of subject matter experts that supported the tender process and planned a complex introduction into service.
