Managed business operations and drove performance of the HSBC Wholesale / Commercial Banking business (CMB) in Bangladesh. The business had an annual revenue stream of c. USD100m with a balance sheet of c. USD4bn• Successfully oversaw the delivery of business-critical projects including the setup and implementation of the Customer Due Diligence (CDD) programme whilst overcoming regulatory, funding, and logistical issues with a potential to derail the project. Hired and directed EY and KPMG resources within Bangladesh to help deliver the CDD project alongside HSBC staff• Worked closely with Internal Audit to close a significant number of open high-risk items• Secured above plan, compliant revenue growth during my tenure, and beyond• Drove through a significant change in business culture and valuesResponsibilities:• Responsible for leading the day-to-day Wholesale / CMB banking operations including managing a large operational team, overseeing various transformation and change projects, and implementing strategic priorities• Ensured the business was compliant with local legislation and internal HSBC Group policies. Led a programme to develop employee values and attitudes to ensure alignment with HSBC stated aspirations• Supported a large team of Relationship managers to deliver excellent customer service• Prioritised the remedial action plan for high-risk audit findings, ensured remedation plans were established and effectively monitored to ensure ongoing compliance with internal policies• Managed third party consultants including EY and KPMG• Identified opportunities alongside the senior management team to improve performance through developing best practice and new methods of working, including process re-engineering and system implementation. As CEO of HSBC Bank Georgia JSC I was responsible for establishing and running the operational and business aspects of the bank in-country and developing a growth strategy aligned to HSBC Group objectives. The bank had a limited balancesheet and was focussed on the largest commercial banking customers in Georgia. Key Achievements:• Successfully established the bank and managed the operational set-up, infrastructure and day-to-day operations including setting the business strategy • Following three successful years a shift in the strategy of HSBC at Group level meant there was a requirement to close the operations within Georiga. This necessitated a complex closure programme while maintaining normal customer service during a challenging period• Effectively managed a wide range of senior stakeholders, including the local banking regulator, politicians and a 30% minority shareholder• Ensured ongoing regulatory compliance and grew the bank through pro-active management of strategic projects including the recruitment of key personnel and partnerships• Board member for both HSBC Bank Georgia and HSBC Bank Armenia
