Functioned as chief architect and delivery manager for the Order Management program. This program spanned multiple business areas including Sales, Product Management, Operations, Engineering, IT and Business Process Engineering. It's purpose was to create a unified Quote-to-Cash solution for all products and services sold by Level 3. The major functional areas included Product Catalog, Quoting, Ordering and Workflow. Technologies used included Java, Javascript, ExtJS, .NET. Solr, Cassandra, Tomcat, and many others.

Responsible for the architecture, development and operations of Zayo’s Operational Support Systems including provisioning, inventory, alarming and trouble management systems. The major project was the reconciliation and integration of acquired communications assets into existing Zayo systems. This involved coordination of efforts between multiple functional areas such as Network Engineering and Network Operations in multiple subsidiaries with the corporate systems development groups. Because Zayo's primary growth is via the acquisition of other telecom companies (typically several per year), this activity was continuous and overlapping requiring managing complex timing and resource relationships between efforts.

Responsible for advising both IT and business organizations on best practices for integrating switched access business processes into off-the-shelf network inventory and business process management software.

Responsible for BoldTech’s largest customer. Delivered the highest margin, highest customer satisfaction, and highest employee satisfaction of all BoldTech engagements. This engagement designs, develops, installs and maintains hosted IP telephony management services using a multi-national development and installation team. Technical highlights include SOA services using .NET and C#, automated VMWare virtual machine creation, automated blade server and chassis configuration. Provided 24x7x365 customer service to Avaya’s telecom customers.

Responsible for the development and ongoing management of BoldTech’s Wireless Broadband Data practice. Activities included assisting companies interested in entering this market develop their business plans and product descriptions, develop and implement network, systems and security architectures, perform vendor selection and negotiation, develop partnering relationships, etc.Specifically for a wireless startup: Developed network architecture and product plans. Planned and conducted field trials, coverage mapping (drive testing), CPE assembly and installation, lab testing. Performed RF interference troubleshooting in both the lab and the field. Managed local loop and internet vendor interfaces.

Provided telecom industry and enterprise architecture expertise as part of BoldTech’s systems integration engagements. BoldTech’s clients include AT&T, Verizon, BellSouth, Level 3, Verio, Sterling Commerce, EchoStar, Qwest, CenturyTel, NTT, ICG and many others.

Chief Architect, Director of Development and Co-Inventor of Level 3’s patented, industry leading ONTAP[sm] Quote to Cash transport fulfillment process. Total involvement including creating the first cocktail napkin drawings of the systems and business process, delivering presentations to executives, customers and investors, contributing code, setting architectural standards, developing testing scenarios, managing schedule and budget across multiple VP areas, resolving conflicts between teams, etc.. Responsible for the continuing architecture, design and operational planning of MCI’s circuit provisioning, engineering, and management systems.Committee member for architecture and design of Order Entry systems, Global Data products, TMN Architecture implementation, Enhanced Private Line products, LEC Electronic bonding, SONET implementation and modeling, Virtual Private Data products, Network Equipment modeling, Network Topology modeling, Customer Premise Equipment tracking, Access Facility route selection and cost determination, Local/Long Distance service integration, Network Diversity modeling, Network Restoration modeling.Designed and implemented a multi-protocol, multi-platform, message queuing application server before any such framework was available commercially.Designed and implemented a software and hardware platform based on the above framework that was used to tie together 500 Network Administration desktops, 4000 Network Operations desktops, and one very large mainframe based system so they share the same view of circuit provisioning, engineering and equipment data

Managed and architected the development, implementation, ongoing maintenance and 24x7 customer service of two of MCI’s largest volume and largest user base information systems: NetPro and TMS. Functions included workforce management, order provisioning, LEC/CAP access management, equipment and circuit inventory management, circuit engineering, and circuit trouble management. Both systems required extensive data conversion efforts, mainframe and support equipment installations, internal network augments, and field equipment rollouts over and above the actual system development. Both projects (35,000 staff days, combined) had very aggressive schedules, were completed on time, and produced unprecedented return on investment. In the case of NetPro, it’s $12M cost was returned in a few months in the form of recovered access charges. Both systems are still in use today with little or no architectural changes owing to their advanced initial design including flexible database and user interface designs. Managed staff of 160 employees and contractors working on multiple projects for multiple clients.Managed yearly capital budgets ranging from $5m to over $20m and yearly operating budgets in excess of $5m.

Managed operations support for Circuit Provisioning, Trouble Management, Switch Administration and Drafting systems for the New England and New York areas.Developed revolutionary equipment management software that MCI still uses to track network equipment worldwide. It was the first project to incorporate a dynamic business rule database and application framework instead of “hard-coded” tables and program logic. This cut the time to model new network equipment from 8 months to 1 day. I believe this was the first such practical implementation in the telecom industry.
