Presently a MA. History (by Research) student at National University of Singapore (NUS), Guan-Fan Tan values interdisciplinary exploration, with particular interests in diasporas, religions, art history, and material culture. He envisions himself as a scholar-educator and an advocate for deeper appreciation of the arts and heritage, with keen interest in contributing to museum work, community engagement, and historical scholarship. Guan-Fan believes strongly in holistic development and value opportunities that benefit communities and stretch his potentials: He is currently offering research assistance and volunteering work in the spheres of art, religions, and Chinese communities. Beyond, Guan-Fan has been an artist since 2008, honing his craft through fine arts education at his alma mater (Hwa Chong Institution). His robust art portfolio saw him receive offers with scholarships to undergraduate BFA courses in Central Saint Martins (London), Pratt Institute (New York City), School of the Art Institute (Chicago), Goldsmiths College (London), and several other colleges. However, instead of pursuing a fine arts education, Guan-Fan now draws on his extensive art knowledge to inform his art historical writing. He remains an active arts practitioner, having most recently produced mixed media gifts of appreciation for visiting professors from University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, and NYU Shanghai.
