OCC Transition Corporation was formerly doing business as OptiComp Corporation of Zephyr Cove, NV. On February 4, 2011 a new company was formed which, on March 31, 2011, purchased the name and assets of the original OptiComp. The original company was then renamed OCC Transition Corporation.The purpose of OCC Transition Corp. was to wind down the operations of the original company, make final distributions to former employees and shareholders. The company was dissolved in Sept. 2012 upon the completion of those tasks.

Former Chairman and President, Mr. Guilfoyle founded OptiComp in 1987 and focused the Company's optoelectronic technology towards digital high-speed switching and data processing applications. In addition to designing and fabricating a second generation, 32-bit digital optoelectronic computer (DOC II) which was completed in 1994, Mr. Guilfoyle also developed a High Performance Optoelectronic Computing (HPOC) module system architecture utilizing global (N4), free space optical interconnects. He was been the Principal Investigator on the Massively Parallel Optical Interconnect (MPOI) program from 2000-2010, with programs from the Air Force Research Laboratory, DARPA, MDA, Boeing and the Naval Air Systems Command. OptiComp was awarded over $50M in contracts during this time and was ultimately sold in an asset sale to a new company, Zephyr Photonics formed to purchase OptiComp, in early 2011. At the time of the sale OptiComp employed 55 engineers, scientists, and researchers. The new company intends to commercialize Mr. Guilfoyle's products e.g., coarse WDM multimode fiber optic transceivers for 40 and 120 Gbps ethernet links. In 1996, 1998 and 2000, OptiComp won the Roland Tibbetts Award, SBIR model of excellence, for its ability to foster technology development and transfer it into the marketplace. In addition, Mr. Guilfoyle was awarded the LEOS Distinguished Lecturer Award for 1994/1995. He was awarded the Gunnerman Silver State Scientist Award for Excellence in Science and Technology in 2001, and the Nevada Inventor of the Year in 2001. He currently holds 14 patents and has published over 100 technical papers. Mr. Guilfoyle earned a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Fellow Member of the Optical Society of America.
