CMISL is a Hedge Fund recently sold by Bank of America to the Insurance giant Generali. They required a small team to design the day 1 infrastructure and migrate the current on-premise systems to an AWS/AZURE hybrid cloud architecture.This process involved discussing our architectural and environmental designs with the senior cloud architect within Generali before implementation using AWS best practices. The infrastructure is built and deployed by Jenkins pipelines and terraform scripts to enable a consistent environment while making use of tools such as Ansible and Packer. The application code is being hosted within Docker containers and again built/deployed by Jenkins and host Ec2 instances are either Linux or WindowsThe migration also required modifications to the main business application for user authentication which is to be performed by a AWS Cognito/AZURE AD framework and an internal DynamoDB DB table for specific business roles.An Existing FTP mechanism between the bank and external clients had to be replicated with the use of EC2\FTP Software\S3 and Lambda and in keeping with best practice is also scripted, source controlled and pushed through the CI/CD pipeline.A POC has been designed and built to see what benefits can be made from container orchestration using Kubernetes via AWS EKS to host a sample of the business applications and allow monitoring of the cluster via Prometheus\Grafana and Cloudwatch

Working as a AWS Cloud Engineer, I assisted in the migration of a large actuarial calculation project from SharePoint toAWS. The project follows the DevOps methodology with all infrastructure scripted via Terraform and sourced controlled within Git. Build and deployment is through Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.The project has been re-engineered to exploit the AWS Serverless framework (Lambda, Api Gateway, SQS, SNS, S3) for the main launch point application process. For security, Cognito is used for user federation while all endpoints are within a VPC, logging throughout is pushed to Cloudwatch Logs.The ultimate goal is for the application to be used as a modelling solution to build calculations for reporting and analysis. This is achieved by executing a Julia calculation engines running on instances managed by an EMR cluster running with SPARK. This allows for a massive amount of data to be processed, merged, encrypted and stored on S3.

Aside from my main clients I have been assisting on a periphery project exercising the latest in AWS technologies.The project is based on the AWS Platform and my role is of AWS Consultant (mixture of Architect / DevOps) to design and develop a prototype and provide oversight of the document that will shortly be lodged with the FCA to enable the firm to operate as an account information service provider. The current prototype is a design using Angular 6 for the UI hosted on S3 making heavy use of the AWS Serverless approach with tools such as Lambda, Api Gateway, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, ElastiCache, SQS, SNS.The CI/CD pipeline is implemented using Terraform/Ansible and Jenkins with central logging on S3, to not only build and deploy application code, but also the underlying company infrastructure.Other Areas of investigation have been (RDS) Aurora, AWS IoT and Docker/Kubernetes to help form ideas and POC for the proposal document and presentations.

Working within a Safe Agile environment, building out an existing WPF based Core Reference Master System which has been built to gather and validate data from all areas of the business (Front/Middle/Back office) which is loaded into a central system which allows business areas to master and query the data via a rich UI.A Restful Api layer is hosted in Azure Service Fabric and exposes the enriched data for other systems, mainly a new Aladdin system within Schroders, to read and utilize. The system is fully integrated into a TTD framework making use of Specflow to implement testing rules specified by the BA Team and executed within a continuous build environment, before deployment via Octopus.Took the lead in bringing to the business a tactical system, built using the React/Redux framework, to merge and refine Portfolio/Mandate data to export into the Aladdin framework. Due to its success this system was then moved to a production status and enhanced with additional features to allow more business user interaction.

Project - Credit Work Flow Tool - Web MVC ApplicationAs the lead on this project I performed analysis with the business users and designed an MVC Single Page Application using a combination of a Model View builder pattern with an Angular UI in conjunction with an IoC Service/Repository middle tier to implement an automatic work-flow which enables data extraction from an internal data repository to feed a Credit Portfolio Modeling system. The functionality of the work flow includes data manipulation, cleansing and transformation via a set of standalone applications. The data is taken through a rigorous three stage process to create stable dataset which can be used as a basis for stress testing using the latest market and calibration data.Project – Migration of the above Projects to an AWS Infrastructure.Assisted in the migration of the team projects from a traditional server infrastructure to an AWS EC2 instance framework running within dedicated VPC’s with EC2 instances created from AMI’s. Another step to this migration was to setup Jenkins to perform the CI/CD routines for all of the team’s projects to allow a more streamlined deployment process.

The business/data layer was based on a Unit of Work design pattern with a tabular UI to allow the user to change a large amount of data while taking care of the data consistency.Within this project I was responsible for the design and development of a Windows service that ran nightly calculating facility/client allocations over an historical time frame, this process allowed the business to instantly see how much of the facility had been allocated to a contract/customer out of the total that could potently be used.
