A12 Gants Hill Town Centre Enhancement. £7.2 millionThe Gants Hill town centre enhancement was one of the Mayor of London’s ‘100 Open Spaces’ and consequently faced intense public and local government scrutiny. The Project involved full signalisation of the 5-arm roundabout; signalisation of 5 new pedestrian crossings; refurbishment of the London Underground subway and entrance; and relighting of the local area, including bespoke lighting systems, footway paving, tree planting, bespoke landscaping, and creation of a new cycleway. The project required delivery while maintaining acceptable capacity of the A12, A1400, and A123 at the Gants Hill roundabout, one of the busiest junctions in London. This balance was achieved through effective traffic management and excellent communication. In addition, intensive liaison between numerous Utility providers, local businesses and the London Borough of Redbridge (LBoR) was essential in ensuring the successful delivery of the project on time. •Leading the project team, including the supervision team and contracting team•Maintaining technical and construction standards set down for the project•Gaining approval of traffic management plans with TfL’s forward planning unit•Making financial decisions on-site and managing the overall cost plan, including risk monies•Making construction decisions on-site•Leading liaisons between utility providers and contractor•Representing TfL at meetings including Greater London Authority, funding meetings, LBoR review boards, and local community meetings•Answering Mayoral questions and community inquiries
