I am a PhD student at the University of Birmingham. My PhD is in Medical Imaging, particularly using functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to assess traumatic brain injury (TBI). During my PhD I have published a paper in the Journal of Biomedical Optics, as well as presented at international conference and won awards for doing so. I have worked on projects with collaborators from around the world, as well as clinical experts in Neurosurgery and brain health. I was also the club president for the University of Birmingham Athletics and Cross Country Club. We are a club of over 500 members, including the cool runnings part of our club. My roles include chairing the committee, being treasurer and secretary for the club, and working with Head of Athletics to run the club. I am a Physics graduate from the University of Birmingham. During my degree I have worked in two schools through the 'Teaching Physics in Schools' module and an Internship respectively. I was the Team Leader for the Medical Imaging group studies project, in which we produced an 125 page report titled 'An Investigation to Identify the Key Issues in Designing a Compton Camera and Explore the Feasibility of Different Approaches'. I was responsible for managing a team of 16 third year students, as well as completing my own investigation into different radiation detectors as part of the project. I completed a project looking at 'Self Organised criticality' by programming a forest fire model in the Numerical Modelling of Physical Systems module. In addition, I have completed lab projects in Neutron Activation analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, Pulsed Nuclear Magnetic resonance and Non invasive heart rate measurements using single wavelength absorption and the Doppler shift of ultrasound. I have been apart of the Athletics and Cross Country Club, the Motor Racing club and BloodSoc, the Universities blood donation society. I have represented Team Dorset and The University of Birmingham in Athletics meets. I achieved 1st place in the South West Indoor Championships for the senior Mens 800m, in 2018.

Diversity, Equality And Inclusion & Communications CommitteeThe Society For Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy Feb 2022 - PresentWorldwideI am on the diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) and the communications committee for the Society of functional near infrared spectroscopy (SfNIRS). SfNIRS are the worldwide society for researchers that use the medical imaging modality, functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), with over 1000 members worldwide. On the DEI committee I am working to form our mission statement and complete our first ever DEI survey, to assess how we can best support our members from underrepresented backgrounds and identities. On the communications committee, I am working to help form the quarterly newsletter, as well as to act as a bridge between the DEI and communications committee. -

Club President & Welfare OfficerUniversity Of Birmingham Athletics & Cross Country Club May 2019 - Apr 2022University Of BirminghamClub President May 2019 to June 2020:I was the club president for the Athletics & Cross Country club. My roles include chairing the committee, being treasurer and secretary of the club and working with the member of staff Head of Athletics, Luke Gunn, to run the club.At the end of the year, I was nominated for the University's Sport Volunteer of the Year award. Our club boasts over 500 members including the Cool Runnings arm of the club. We have athletes training for every event from 60m to the Marathon and every increment inbetween. We were one of the first clubs to achieve a Gold Standard England Athletics Charter Mark, are the new British Athletics Endurance hub and are the biggest and most active club at the University.Men's Welfare officer May 2021 to June 2022:I was the men's welfare officer for the Athletics & Cross Country club. My role meant that throughout the year I offered support to members of the club. As part of this, me and the women's welfare officer ran drop-in sessions, where members could meet us for a coffee and chat about any problems they had. We also promoted resources where members could get support using NHS and University services. -

Ogden Trust 2018 Summer InternshipUcl Jun 2018 - Aug 2018London, United KingdomI completed an 8 week internship in the department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. My Project was 'The Development of Training Model for Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) (KidneyStones Removal)'. During the 8 weeks, I segmented different structures of the Kidney and processed the data such that it could be 3D printed. I was also involved in outreach events and have taken part in various workshops and visited UCLH to witness a PCNL operation. From this internship I was a co author on a conference proceeding "3D printed kidney phantoms for an LED-based photoacoustic and ultrasound imaging system" at SPIE West 2019 in San Francisco. -
Student Ambassador For The School Of Physics And AstronomyUniversity Of Birmingham Jan 2016 - Jun 2018University Of BirminghamI was a student ambassador for the School Of Physics And Astronomy at The University Of Birmingham. As part of my role, I had to assist the department during open and applicant visit days. -
Team Leader For The Medical Imaging Group Studies ProjectUniversity Of Birmingham Jan 2018 - Mar 2018University Of BirminghamI was the team leader for the Medical Imaging group studies project. The project consisted of sixteen third year students working over a period of ten weeks to build and investigate the ideal properties and limitations of a Compton camera. I investigated different characteristics of a variety of detectors such as the efficiency, resolution and the ratio of the area of the Compton continuum to the photo peak. As well as this, I considered the optimal geometry between the scatterer and absorber using the angular dependence on energy loss due to Compton scattering, as well as the uncertainty in energy due to the geometry of the detectors and the inherent resolution of them. I was also responsible in organising the different subgroups of the team, so that there was a successful project outcome. -
TreasurerBloodsoc Mar 2017 - Mar 2018University Of BirminghamI was the Treasurer for BloodSoc, the University Of Birmingham's blood donation society. As part of this role, I had to keep the accounts of the society, arrange transportation to the local donation centre and liaise with the Guild of Students for our annual grant. I also co-managed the social media accounts of the society, this included creating content for our Facebook and Instagram posts. -
