I worked in the Cyber department for Raytheon, looking at cutting edge AI/ML tools and how they can be employed within the defence industry. I specialised in Reinforcement Learning and led multiple RL projects. I was also able to work on GAN solutions and computer vision solutions, among others.

I managed data processing needs for Ilika's battery development scientists. I developed many analysis tools in MATLAB to automate the processing of raw data from numerous pieces of equipment, notably Raman Spectroscopy data. I automated parts of the manufacturing process, notably, I developed a lump detector (finding lumps in pictures of thin films) to automate quality assurance of Ilika's screen printing processes. This was done using transfer learning on a pre-trained semantic segmentation model, Deeplab-V3+.

A friend and colleague found funding for his company: NeevesTECH, a start-up in its infancy. I joined as CTO. Being a start-up of 2 employees, my role was extremely wide in scope. As a result, I worked on website design, data management, communication protocols for wireless components, 3D printing, vacuum systems, and representing the company with patent attornies and compliance companies, among other things, to validate and develop our first product offering.

Since completing the graduate scheme at e2v I was given a position in Imaging as a Development Engineer. Among other smaller tasks, the three main responsibilities/projects I had were:1. Image sensor yield analysis2. Automating data analysis for manufacturing (completing projects to automate data analysis procedures in 2 different areas)3. Verification and test of reflectivity and quantum efficiency (QE) measurements of CCD and CMOS devicesThe main tool I used to achieve this was Excel, as I have deep knowledge of sheet and VBA functionality.I used a number of different methodologies/data processes to carry out analysis and projects, including Statistical Process Control and Six Sigma.

e2v's two year graduate scheme allows its graduates to move around the company into any (within reason) 3 roles during the course of the 2 year scheme. My placements were:1. Development engineer - CCD technology (15 months)My major objectives to date in this placement have been:-> Characterise anti-reflective (AR) coatings.-> Automate data analysis of AR coatings.-> Investigate the extent of error within the AR equipment, and to realise the implications.-> Qualify materials to pass certain quality standards (e.g. - NASA outgassing standard - ASTM E595).-> Automate data analysis for laser anneal equipment and create a simple, understandable GUI so that the analysis tool can be used intuitively by any employee.2. Marketing & Technology - Thermal imaging cameras (3 months)My tasks within the TICs (Thermal Imaging Cameras) department were:-> Assessing the application of different thermal imaging technology across potential markets.-> Liaising with Sales to assess the market in global areas for potential, and in specific sectors for channel partners.3. CCD/CMOS Device Characterisation (6 Months)My tasks within Characterisation were:-> Creating documentation that specifies the requirements of certain cables used within the department. This minimised time to communicate requirements for future cable fabrication.-> Investigate crosstalk between parallel outputs for a specific CCD design. It was believed that cables were not perfectly shielded so I was asked to conduct an experiment into whether crosstalk between these cables was taking place. This led me down a path to writing code in MATLAB in order to process pixel array information.-> Construct a camera to house a specific CCD so that the CCD can be characterised. This included liaising with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, working on the optics, vacuum and thermal requirements of the camera.

I gained hands-on experience with many different techniques of metal manipulation including plasma etching, drilling, grinding, cutting and welding (MIG & TIG, although I only used MIG). I learnt an appreciation for powerful and potentially dangerous pieces of equipment at the workplace.
