For 25 years, I have had the great good fortune to work as a public librarian, specializing in reader's advisory and fiction. I have worked with a wonderfully diverse and interesting bunch of folks, and conversed with people about books and reading and helping them find other good stuff to read. I also review books and audiobooks for The Seattle Times and Booklist, and write and curate Library Journal's "Classic Returns" column, devoted to reprints and rediscoveries. This year, I'm launching a new enterprise: Curious Books, an offbeat audiobooks publisher specializing in lost or neglected treasures from the past. Specialties: Narration, Audiobook production, Librarianship, Reader's services, Reader's advisory, Teaching, Book reviewing, Public speaking, Blogging, Intellectual Freedom, Free Speech.

I actually enjoy going to speak before groups, especially if I can distract them while I do so with slides and sight gags. Sounds hokey, and I suppose it is, but I've gotten pretty good reviews from groups and conferences I've spoken to, so if you're interested in a presenter, I love to visit new places I've never been (and old favorites such as Toronto) and generally work pretty cheap if you'll fly me in and get me a hotel stay. I have done presentations on men and reading, both solo and together with Kaite Stover (see columnist, above), as well as the reading interests of 20-somethings, and a program on how to create and produce Adult Storytimes, which I recently presented at the Ontario Library Association Conference, the Toronto Public Library, the Oregon Library Association Conference and the Colorado Library Association Reader's Advisory Day. Coming up I will be presenting at PLA 2010 in Portland, ALA 2010 in Washington DC, and PNLA 2010 in Victoria BC.
