The Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) is a 40-week resident school that provides career-level, professional military education and training to company grade Marine officers and selected officers from other services and countries. EWS delivers nine core courses: Foundations, Doctrine, Planning, Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Operations, Amphibious Operations, Small Wars, Occupational Field Expansion Course (OFEC), Leader Development, and Professional Communication. Upon graduation, students are expected to be capable of accomplishing the following program outcomes: (1) Serve as MAGTF Officers who are experts within their warfighting specialties and highly skilled in synchronizing all elements of the MAGTF in the expeditionary environment. (2) Serve as Critical Thinkers and Decision-Makers who are well-educated, inquisitive, capable of broad and deep analysis of ill-structured problems, and able to apply sound, timely decisions. (3) Serve as Effective Communicators who are able to convey their plans, judgment, and informed opinions in concise, well-reasoned writings, briefs, and discussions. (4) Serve as Ethical Leaders who can develop the principled, disciplined units and subordinates that will operate in distributed, complex expeditionary environments.​
