As a full time student there are few jobs available. With few exceptions waiting tables, the gig economy and retail are the options...I chose retail or should I say retail chose me. I have a natural ability to see that which is "shoppable". That is a term used in the industry that refers to an environment amenable to both intentional and impulse sales. I have been appreciated early and promoted often in all of the positions in which I chose to engage. It wasn't until this current position where I not only found my passion but I began to question the very education that I just received. I went into university with the express intent of becoming POTUS, after all how better to bring positive change to the world? After four years delving into the intense and complicated world that is our geopolitical reality my perspective began to change and I realized that perhaps I had been too hasty. I can be active politically, I can vote, I can volunteer as a poll worker as I did in 2018 and I can be an agent of change but I can also work in a world of my choosing, in a world that fires my imagination and inspires me personally.While working at Recycle Book Store, where I am tasked with a range of duties including evaluating and buying incoming used books, curation of the YA, fantasy and romance sections, team management, new hire training, cashiering, merchandising, social media management and novel marketing strategies including many special pet projects that have brought me profound personal satisfaction and increased revenue, I have truly found my passion. With these two new insights, what was and what could be, I have excitedly arrived at the conclusion that I need to find my way into that world of imagination and inspiration that was always there, always within reach but just out of sight. I will find my way to the world of publishing where I will one day help to decide what stories will inspire my fellow lovers of literature.
