I've always sucked at math — I even needed a tutor to get through high school. So when I was introduced as "the most data-driven marketer I've ever met," or when the most prominent words on a word cloud by my peers were "analytical" and "data driven," I knew something had changed.My fear of numbers plunged me into a career in content marketing where I leaned into words and artful question-asking. But I learned quickly that any upward growth would force me to face the "science" of marketing: connecting my work to dollars. I spent the last several years of my content career getting comfortable with marketing analytics: creating data-backed strategy for campaigns, using multi-touch attribution to map out the customer journey to increase funnel velocity, building customer segments off of those touchpoint behaviours, and creating ROI frameworks for each and every type of content. I was hungry for a bigger piece of the pie, which led me to a formal role change outside of content where I worked cross-functionally on a multi-fecta leadership team with sales, data science, digital, integrated, and field marketing.
