As President of the Global Studies Community, I was able to organise social events and learning opportunities for my fellow Global Studies students, and was able to take on a leadership role in representing the board of GSC, as well as the Global Studies programme. I learned many skills such as project management and event planning, and honed in on skills such as time-management and effective communication. This position provided me with a great deal of self-reflection moments, and effectively allowed me to work collaboratively with others while expanding my personal and professional network!

As Head of Marketing for the Global Studies Community, I was able to design and publish social media posts to communicate upcoming events to fellow Global Studies students and staff. This position allowed me to communicate within the GSC board, and create partnerships outside of our programme. I learned many skills, such as communication strategies, building partnerships, event coordination and promotion, and software skills.

As a Student Representative, I had the opportunity to introduce, discuss, and plan effective ways for the faculty to better represent its students. I enjoyed this role as an SR, as I believe I made a difference alongside my fellow SR members in representing and caring for the students of FASoS, especially those in the Global Studies Programme. Within the Education working group, I was able to plan an extracurricular event alongside my teammates, which introduced students to the plethora of extracurricular opportunities offered at Maastricht University. I believe this event not only provided students with information about extracurricular activities, but also encouraged them to become more active in the community as a complement to their studies!

As a student representative of the FASoS Faculty Council, I was able to represent student issues to the Faculty Board and collaboratively design solutions to them. This position taught me a lot about effective and strategic communication, especially in a hierarchical environment, and I learned a lot about the inner-workings of education frameworks and systems. This position allowed me to gather information about education policy and processes, and I am excited to apply this knowledge to my future endeavours. Overall, this was a very rewarding position for me, and I hope to be able to pursue a similar position in the future.
