Hal is lead Creative Producer of Teacher Man, a new Broadway bound play adapted and written by Ilya Khodosh, DFA, Dramaturgy - David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University. Additional material is provided by NY Times bestselling author, Susan Jane Gilman. Susan knew Frank McCourt as her high school English teacher, mentor, and long-time friend. Teacher Man is adapted from Frank McCourt's best-selling memoirs 'Tis and Teacher Man. These books are the two sequels to the Pulitzer Prize winning memoir Angela's Ashes published in 1996. Frank McCourt wrote Angela's Ashes at age 66, after teaching at McKee Vocational & Technical High School in Staten Island and Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. Stuyvesant High School was established in 1904 as a public school and is one of the leading Math and Science high schools in the U.S. Admission is highly selective and based on a test, with a pass rate of only 2%. Notable alumni include 4 Nobel Prize winners and the Irish-American Actor James Cagney. Hal (Producer- Class of 1978), Ilya (Playwright - Class of 2004), and Susan Jane (Contributing Author - Class of 1982) are all proud alumni of Stuyvesant, where Mr. McCourt was a beloved English and Creative Writing teacher from 1972-1987. Teacher Man was developed with support from New York Stage & Film (NYSAF). Notable productions that received vital incubation from NYSAF include the Tony Award-Winning Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Doubt (John Patrick Shanley). Teacher Man is directed by Susan Tenney, an Award winning Director and Choreographer. Tony-award winner, Roy Gabay of Jumpstart Entertainment, is the Executive Producer and General Manager. Legal representation is provided by Scott Wilcox of Loeb & Loeb. Hal is an accomplished Media and Entertainment Credit Analyst responsible for evaluating the financing plans of the major industry players.
