As a counselor at a residential treatment facility, I work with children and their families to increase safety and cohesion in their home environments. Children with high risk behaviors need a lot of guidance and support in order to address the drivers of these behaviors. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and the Seven Challenges program, as well as receiving continuing education in order to treat a variety or risk behaviors. Additionally, I have received a plethora of experience in working with military families as this group has made up the majority of my caseload. Overall, my focus it to bring families together in a positive way that will support children to live up to their highest potential.

As clinical coordinator at the UK Family Center I implemented and enforced agency policies through coordination between clinic director and intern therapists. Additionally, I supervised undergraduate interns as they become comfortable in a mental health setting and develop interactional skills. A highly important task as clinical coordinator is tracking financial and clinical information through weekly and monthly reports to the clinical director and university offices. In completing my training in the Couples and Family Therapy program at the University of Kentucky I held sessions with individual and family clients achieving 608 clinical hours working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I met with my supervisors approximately 3 to 4 hours each week, both individually and with a group, in order to receive training and guidance. Upon clinically assessing clients needs, I developed and implemented treatment plans for individuals, couples, families, and children using a variety of models and therapeutic techniques. Approximately 10 hours each week I engaged adolescents in therapy through placement at Bryan Station Middle School. I also participated and led parenting and coparenting workshops and groups, as well as leading a group within an assisted living facility for the elderly.

As a graduate assistant to both Tracey Werner-Wilson and Nicole Peritore I was able to gain experience in the realms of curriculum development, data entry, and extension research. I researched and developed a coparenting workshop to help parents to work together to parents children of all ages while going through and following a divorce. I assisted with extension research in the areas of father involvement, physical exercise and healthy habits of those in the community.

Through interning at Harbor House CAC I was given the opportunity to interact with families to welcome them to the center and allow them to feel comfortable during stressful times. I also gain confidence and comfort in dealing with sensitive situations with families. I participated in a HEROES support group monthly for children who have faced physical and sexual abuse and helped children to develop coping skills.

I assist students with SPSS while maintaining organization within lab to meet their needs. I also assisted Professors with daily tasks for class, research, and publishing purposes.

I helped children ages 5 – 14 accomplish their daily tasks at school while serving as an assistant to teachers by grading assignments and preparing daily activities.

Through this internship I observed court proceedings and the probation process to gain understanding of what children and families in the court system endure. I also participated in a trauma support group with adolescents in the court system.

Through my internship at Connecting Henry I became certified in Crisis Intervention Training and Diversity Training through the county. I developed skills to communicate effectively with diverse populations through answering the phone, personal interactions, and in a workshop atmosphere. I assisted families in need through networking with local agencies to locate the services the family needs.
