About My Role:As the Lead Instructor and Department Head of ChangeLab at the Center for Advanced Learning, I am privileged to guide and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders. My role encompasses educating both high school juniors and seniors as well as college students, through a dual credit program with Mt. Hood Community College.Responsibilities:Curriculum Development and Instruction: Design and deliver an engaging curriculum focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, and social action projects. Incorporate experiential learning through real-world business challenges to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students.Mentorship and Support: Actively support students in starting and running their own businesses, providing guidance on both the theoretical and practical aspects of entrepreneurship.Community Engagement: Foster relationships with community organizations to facilitate projects that allow students to address local issues, enhancing their impact and providing practical experience.Academic Guidance: Help students navigate the complexities of earning college credits through the program, ensuring they maximize their learning and credit accumulation.Achievements:Successfully guided students through the creation and operation of their own startups, with many continuing their ventures beyond the program.Developed partnerships with multiple community organizations, leading to impactful projects that address local challenges.Contributed to the academic advancement of students, with participants earning up to 23 college credits and gaining significant real-world experience at partner work sites.Looking Ahead:I am constantly seeking new challenges and ways to enhance the educational experience for my students. Haley, along with a few associates and a common passion for mid-century architecture and design founded the Mid-Century Modern League. Portland boasts an impressive variety of mid-century structures just awaiting the appreciation they deserve. Through community education and advocacy, the Mid-Century Modern League’s goal is to encourage preservation of these important architectural marvels. Our most recent projects include the successful removal and future restoration of the Crown Motel sign.MCML is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the education, preservation, and celebration of mid-century design and architecture.
